Prophet 10 rev 4: which one to get? Keyboard or module?

The P5/10 is a great controller as well.

I understand that as a conrroller per se it's a bit problematic for a number of reasons:

1. No octave up/down switches

2. The knobs transmit only values of 0 - 120, instead of 0- 127.

3. Personally, my ideal controller should be at least 73 keya if not 88.
That's a personal preference which i'm going to do without, for a few months or even a year until i get something like that numa x piano or whatever

1. That's very odd design decision IMO. I recently bought 2 Korg synths with only 3 octave keyboards and they both have octave up/down buttons. Seems a pretty standard thing nowadays for smaller keyboards. I guess it can be lived without, but I'm not even that good a player and I use the octave up/down a lot. Quite a limitation without it.

2. 120 instead of 127?! That's just dumb. What was DS thinking? Is that one of those American "I have to do it differently" things? That's 1/4 of the range for everything potentially making it a nightmare. Fine for only live playing, but any kind of sequencing/DAW etc and that could get really awkward. It's been a standard for ages, no excuses. Definitely can be worked around, but it makes you wonder what other design f**k-ups they put in there...I was mulling over a Pro3, but that's making me consider it (or not) a bit more deeply.

Been figuring out what else i need to sell (besides the nord stage) to get the extra $1300 for the Prophet 10, and now i'm beginning to have some second thoughts about my Behringer 2600.
I mean, at first i was looking at my software, and decided to try and sell stuff like Omnisphere, Uvi Falcon, Uhe Diva just to name a few.
But i'm not sure that will be enough and not sure how i feel about how much i lose compared to how much i bought them for.
The Behringer 2600 is brilliant but perhaps in a context of having Matriarch, Udo Super 6 and Prophet 10 - having the B2600 might be overkill? Worth letting go for a "cause" of getting the P10?

I have the B2600 too, and TBH I haven't been using it much. I keep it because I'm reasonably sure when I spend more time, at some point I'll get into it and delve around a lot more (got uni study and other crap to reduce my studio time currently - shouldn't be at f**king uni in my 50s and should know better ). I don't actually regret buying it, but I think impulse got the better of me. I wanted it specifically for weirdo sounds, Dr Who kind of silliness, and It can definitely do that - but for most people that tends to be on the backburner I guess. That might be a sensible option for you and they probably sell reasonably well 2nd hand (you'll still take a loss - unavoidable). Again it's that thing - if you're not using it, do you need it? Especially when you want something else so badly.

I guess it's part of their philosophy to make this an authentic reissue. Their other synths have pretty much every convenience a synth should have in the 21th century

Spent some time with the B2600 in conjunction with the Moog Matriarch. I like its sound very much - but even if i didn't, it serves as a very cheap expansion box for the Matriarch, providing me with 3 more vco's which can be lfo's, another 4th lfo, envelopes which i can send to the Matriarch (the B2600 envelopes are much snappier), a proper S&H circuit, more attenuators, mixers etc etc. If i were to try and get these modules in eurorack it would end up much much more expensive. So besides sounding great it is also simply very useful

Yeah, well maybe except an MEK. Or a Polyevolver. Rev 2.... Oh, yeah and that P6 thing wasn't bad either. Mopho keyboard? Or Pro 2.

The keyboard is really good and the look plays for me also a role in enjoying the whole package. I would go for the keyboard version if money/space is not an issue.

Also, the aftertouch works very smoothly, even if it is only monophonic. In general, I would say the keyboard quality is 9 out of 10 posssible points. Not all keyboards today have the same great feel and playability.

Yeah, but it's not as fun tweaking as a full keyboard. I know it has become a cliché but the full keyboard version feels like a true instrument in the full sense of the word

Not to mention those big knobs on P10 keyboard... That's what you're really paying for when you buy the keyboard version
