I don't know why this keeps happening but fully half the time I'm working on a part in the midi editor I have this happen. I go to select all (the keyboard command, not by dragging the mouse around for example) the notes on screen and it selects all the notes in the entire song across all tracks and parts. This is not what I want and I do not know how to stop this from happening. Please help, thanks.

Do you have clicked into the editor to give it focus??

I.e. doubleclick the item to open the Editor, click on one note to select it and then hit CTRL+A should do the job for just this clip...

I don't understand what this means. I am in the Midi Editor after opening it for a chosen part. I am trying to select all the notes within and only the notes within that part. I'm not sure how to make that clearer

What I mean is to click one time into the editor window after opening that Reaper binds the keyboard shortcuts which are common for the whole programm (like CTRL+A) really to the editor window and not the whole sequencer...

Just try it... try the same you did before but this time before hitting your keyboard command for selecting all click one time into the editor window and see if it behaves different now...

There is a preference "always sync arrange-window with midi-editor" or simliar.
You have to check this.
