Analog Rhythm MK2 or Syntakt and Tr8s

I sold my Analog Rythm MK2 on a whim.

I regret a little.

I ask myself the following question.

I take the Analog Rythm MK2 or I take the Syntakt and the Roland Tr8s.

This way I will have the Roland sounds as well.

Now the Analog Rhythm MK2 could be more than enough for me.

Just a thought.

Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of the Elektron boxes than I am of the Rolands, so I'm a little biased. The TR-8S is good for X0X drum sounds (the ACB drums do sound pretty good IMO), but the sequencer is nowhere near as good as Elektron's IMO, the menu is archaic, and the construction is pretty cheap and plastic compared to the Elektrons. Also, the TR-8S has no song mode and no ability to trigger patterns from MIDI, which may or may not be a big deal to you (it was a dealbreaker for me). That said, the one major (IMO) feature that the Syntakt lacks compared to the TR-8S and RYTM mk2 is that you can't save kits.

For me, it would be no-brainer - I'd go with the RYTM mk2 and load it up with samples (Elektron actually offers many X0X sample packs from GoldBaby and Samples from Mars). If you decide to go with the Syntakt/TR-8S option, a cheaper alternative is to go with a TR-6S, which offers the exact same ACB sounds as the TR-8S, but in a much smaller and cheaper box that you could connect to your Syntakt via MIDI and go nuts with its sequencer and song mode. I've owned a TR-6S on two separate occasions and it sounded great, but ultimately didn't really give me anything that my Digitakt, Syntakt, or RYTM mk2 didn't already cover more than adequately.

One other option that you may want to consider is the RYTM mk2 and the TR-6S. I have no idea how much these items are selling for in your area, but I could buy a secondhand RYTM mk2 and TR-6S for about the same price as a secondhand Digitakt and TR-8S where I live. Just another option. That would give you the option to sample the Roland sounds directly into your RYTM for further processing with analog envelopes, filters, overdrive, and that amazing compressor.

I got 2 Rytm's so that says how I feel about it! I could make whole compositions just with those 2...

I think it really depends on what you want to do. If you just want some fairly standard xox drums the Rytm is a waste. If you want to really dig in and create unique original content, it's one of the best machines ever made!

I like the TR8S, classic Roland sounds.

But I really like Elektron, even if taking msin takes time.

Going deeper, tweaking the sounds also appeals to me, it brings the sound to life.

The sampler part does not really interest him, because I will never use personal samples.

Why I was thinking of the Syntakt, because no sampler function.

Now the Analog Rhythm MK2 is a monster and indeed very certainly one of the best, if not the best.

I thought that the Syntakt being a kind of Analog Rhythm MK2 (light 4 analog parts) and
8 digital parts, it could be a kind of substitute for the Analog Rhythm MK2 and to complete it, I thought why not a TR8S.

On the other hand, take over an Analog Rhythm MK2?

These two overlap to some degree on the analog synth side, but obviously the RYTM has more analog tracks/machines. Two major differences are that: (1) the RYTM supports samples/sampling that the Syntakt doesn't have, and (2) the Syntakt has the digital machines that the RYTM doesn't have. So, they're definitely not duplicates and actually make a pretty good pair IMO.

I use a Syntakt and a Digitakt (really something after the 1.5 update)...a great combo.
If I was jut going to have 1 Elektron box it would be Syntakt.

That's the thing... I love samples through the analog circuits in the Rytm. And you can do some amazing stuff using both. With some of my own samples, the Rytm is my favorite ambient hardware machine. Plus the Rytm has the analog distortion and analog compressor. Those can go to some wild places when p-locked!

So the most interesting combo in this choice of machine is rather the Analog Rhythm MK2 and Syntakt, the best of both worlds combined.


The TR8S option is not included in your answers, is there a reason?

Maybe we can simply use TR 909 samples in the Analog Rhythm MK2 and, if you understand, pass it through an analog processing of the Analog Rhythm MK2 directly?
