Hi, was wondering how many ADA8200 I can connect to the Focusrite, needing some extra channels, I have one already, I think there are 2 ADAT in/outs on the 3rd gen, does this mean I could in theory connect 2 ADA8200's giving me 16 extra channels to the 18i20?
thanks for any advice or info
cheers
Tony

Unfortunately no - its limited to 8 line in, which can be in either at 48khz (8 preamps fed to one ADAT port) or 96khz (4 preamps in each of the 2 ADAT ports).

Thanks for the info Macspares,

True. Otherwise it would be called the Scarlett 26i28.

What's the best way to get more than 16 channels, each one visible in my DAW so I can apply effects etc, I have a few external sound modules with left/right outputs, a tr8s I'd like to use the a,b,c outputs as well, tr3 mono, .
Was looking at the zoom l20, but a pricey piece of kit, I'd gave to sell my 18i20, ada8200 to pay for it but would like to be able to use my current gear and add to it.
How do other peeps get many audio in to their daw?
Thanks

Found some info on the RME digiface, can add up to 4 adat, so 32 channels, I've heard rme drivers are good but is this a good audio interface?
Thanks

Me:
RME UC+ADAT (16 in + 16 out)
If necessary in the future (I doubt it): add RME digiface+more ADAT

What I would never do: combine audio interfaces from different manufacturers and/or use synth built-in audio interfaces.

RME are fantastic, I've owned several of their interfaces, but they are expensive and hard to obtain right now.

I would go for the Audient ID44, which gives you twin ADAT i/o with very good quality/price/performance.

Thanks for the info techlord, I'll look into the audient, I'm needing 20 inputs to get all my current gear into separate channels, mono and stereo left/right.
Thanks again

If you have the money and can find one though, an RME UFX would be solid gold. Even used, they are 'interface for life' material.

You'd have at least 28 physical inputs and dual midi i/o too.

Budget alternative: Behringer X32 mixer.

Has 32 inputs on XLR plugs (not 1/8" TRS alas). These have clipping level of +23dBu, impedance of 5kΩ unbalanced, so they should be able to take synth outputs. It just takes some adapter cables from TRS to XLR.

And it functions as a 32x32 USB2 audio interface as well.

Thats seems to be what i need, so audio channels are visible in the daw? I'm already using an old mixer, with 16in, stereo out to the ada8200, but these are not visible in my daw, works but I'm trying now to clear some of the clutter on my desk, thought some rackmount modules as I have already would be a bit tidier.

There is a rack-mount version of the X32, but alas it has only 16 physical inputs.
To make it a true 32-channel unit, you need to add a S16 stage box.

Looked at the zoom l20 as well, offers everything I need, also in a rackmount version, anyone used this?
Tending towards the rme atm digiface as this looks cleaner and less space than a mixer,
