Whether user can import, create and resynthesize audio into wavetables. This is an important function of a wavetable synth. Icarus shines here. Serum has a full editor. Vital is pretty good and Massive X cannot import or generate new wavetables at all.

There should also be a modulation category. Vital is exceptional here. Massive X has weak LFO's and does not have MSEG's. Pigments is strong.

Hive is absolutely a full wavetable synth. IME, it has the best wavetable interpolation, can import wavetables, has 2 axis wavetables, and can generate its own wavetables with Uhm scripts. No other wavetable synth has that.

Both Icarus and Hive should be in any software wavetable synth comparison.
There is a ton if things I left out. Simply because of time constraints. I had to prioritize what matters the most to me, as this is a quest to find my new go-to workhorse synth. It took me almost a full week, 14 hours a day just to do these first 7 synths. 4 of them had such short demo period time that it was impossible to do a deeper dive anyway. It takes time to build sound design templates that I use to further test out the synths with, and when its all wiped away in 20 minutes it is just not an option to do so. I need an absolute minimum of 3 hours, preferably 3 days to do a complete all futures covered A/B shootout.

Thanks for the update on Hive. I might give it another look if I have time. I did try it briefly a year ago but it just didn't appeal to me at the time. But so did Massive X and its one of my favorites now.

It would still have gotten 30 points :hihi:
I will see if I get time to do it Urs. :)

No worries, was just messing with you. If you look for something that does remap and all that, Hive isn't it.

I had some budget left to buy a software lately and my first impulse was getting Hive. The transaction did not work for some reasons and I stumbled across Diva and decided for that instead and enjoy it so much now. For the future I am generally still interested in Hive, especially now with my first experience with U-he being so good, but I wonder if I really need it, when I already have and like to use Serum very much. So far I have seen some videos on Youtube about Hive and liked the GUI very much. Any thoughts on this, that could be helpful for me?
I'd rather wait for Zebra 3 if I were you and wanted something else from U-He, but as I'm a Hive skeptic ymmv.

I suggest you make a thread in the u-he forum... this is off topic in this thread. :tu:

There is also Ableton's Wavetable, yet also maybe taking it a bit too far. People tend to think everything named 'Ultimate' actually has to be complete & ultimate. Same people might never have heard of 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' or just some Ultimate Hits, then complaining not every Hit was on there. Could be a #kvr thing though, there is no perfect, just accept it.

I understand that it's a personal shootout that you decided to make public in this forum (no problem at all), so people shouldn't be upset about it.
I also made my own (and quite rigorous) shootout quite a while ago and chose 3 wavetable synths: Massive X, Phaseplant and Sugarbytes Factory. Couldn't be more satisfied about my choices.
(btw, I don't care about my synths not featuring wavetable import. Much prefer having a professional, hi quality selection enbedded in the synth, like MX)

Hive may not be the most advanced wavetable synth, bug it sounds damn amazing. ANA 2 and Viper also support Serum wavetables. The upcoming Zebra 3 will support both Uhm and Wav wavetables! Personally, I am not impressed with the sound of Pigments. No matter how many times I tried it, it sounds bland to me.
Try Pigments with its new MS20 filter and you’ll find it anything but “bland.”

I can't believe this MS20 filter was offered for free for a while as standalone vst by arturia. The sound is indeed amazing and colorful.
Arturia rocks....

Sure it does. They just call them Performers.

One filter doesn't make a difference in my opinion.

I am asking a quick question about comparing two wavetable synthesizers in a thread, that is about comparing wavetable synthesizers. This is not off topic. OP mentioned that he might consider testing Hive too. I will just leave that question here, and not open a whole new thread for this. I am not looking for a big discussion about that, just a few words.
