UAD PolyMAX - This thing is Sick

Why do companies like UAD use ilok?
It is the worst software ever created.
softube, expressive e, and UAD all use this kind of downloader paired with the ilok app, and none of them ever work.
I got a refund from softube, and expressive e, the latter took two weeks to get.
Now UAD loaded fine with the demo, and after purchase, but once it restarts, the synth app goes blurry, and it can't connect to the UAD app, and the UAD app won't even open.
I hate ilok. These companies need better support if they're going to dump a bunch of crap software on your system and expect it to run.

As usual, some people like the synth, others find it unremarkable, and iLok is the deal breaker. No wonder chatGTP3 works.

TAL MOD does not sound the same.sacer wrote: Wed Mar 08, 2023 8:15 am I mean with identical they sound the same, have you ever tried TAL Audio ?
PolyMax is a much simpler synth. To me it also sounds more present. Has a clean but rich sound.

I don't see any advancement between repro and this. wonder if synth development in the real of emulations has plateau

Any improvement would be edge cases - resonance, distortions, particularly in the higher frequencies, etc.rod_zero wrote: Thu Mar 09, 2023 4:37 pm I don't see any advancement between repro and this. wonder if synth development in the real of emulations has plateau

Yeah, Brah, but it's like every piece of (music) software...the price thing is a matter when ya buy it. Certain sales go on at certain times of year, etc. Couldn't tell ya how many times I won on something and lost on something else. Right now (ie MAR 2023), is a great time to buy this. It's on sale for $99, and UA just dropped a $50 (coupon) in my account.mholloway wrote: Wed Nov 09, 2022 1:18 amPolyMax can be bought for 199 USD. It's not subscription only.
FYI: I have most of their gear which I bought over time...started when they were putting out Mackie cards and had no pulgins for sale. (They gave me the first few that they put out on their sight and some other along the way.) Personally, I would prefer that their synths/Organ/keys ran on their hardware, as well.
Anyway, I just checked in to read some reviews on Polymax, as I am considering picking it up for $49. Yeah, it should also have a sizable interface. It does look simple. I really can't remember buying any bad offerings from them. I did start picking up some Plugin Alliance (PA) versions in lieu of UD gear somewhere along the way. Softube actually make their Marshall amps and Brainworx did quite a few other items...pick them up on the PA site for $29.99 on sale. Regardless, I like having a lot of great gear running on outboard procs.
OK, so the Polymax for $49?
I've got nothing to sell...am I on the right site?

This might sound harsh, but I think this synth is targeted at guitarists and other musicians who are a bit synth curious, but not really ready for something that has as much under the hood controls as Repro. I mean, it sounds fine, but after 5 minutes I was all... than what?rod_zero wrote: Thu Mar 09, 2023 4:37 pm I don't see any advancement between repro and this. wonder if synth development in the real of emulations has plateau
Alternately, it might be appealing to people who played more simple synths in the 80s, but are only now thinking of getting back into it and want a nice way to get those sounds and not clutter up the guest bedroom.
I'm going to buy Opal right now, which to me is still a bit feature bare for my personal tastes, but the sound is so good and I'm a sucker for a variable slope filter.

It's a nightmare not worth more than the demo.deejay2 wrote: Fri Mar 17, 2023 9:23 pm do you need ilok dongle or web account software?
how many presets it has?
polymax or opal? which ones better?
You need the UA connection app which must start on computer startup and it stays running in the background until you manually quit it. Then there is the pace ilok crap app which is a bugfest of uninstalls and reinstalls. I bought it after demoing for 15 minutes before noticing these faults. Now I just uninstalled every file associated with both of those apps, and will look to sell it. Repro is better anyway. Like the above user mentioned, it does have slightly better resonance.

Dongle or cloud, no cpu auth. Presets, not many but good starting points. More than a hundred but not much more.deejay2 wrote: Fri Mar 17, 2023 9:23 pm do you need ilok dongle or web account software?

IMO Opal is better bang for your buck b/c you can do more with it, wider sound palet by far. I think they both sound very good, Polymax is a easier to get something going with and is less cpu intensive. Depends which you vaule more, simplicity and quick workflow, I'd say Polymax. If I had to choose I'd take Opal b/c of how deep it is in comparison. Wavetable, more fx and also does imo a comparble high quality analog sound.
Thankfully I don't have to choose.

Over in the UAD Opal thread a user pointed out that the coupon can be used only once.deejay2 wrote: Sat Mar 18, 2023 9:51 pmyou can buy them together for $98 in case you cant use coupon twice but i think you can as it is generic coupon on website
