Output from browser and DAW on the same sound card

I am on Windows 10, using Bitwig, which has support for Jack and ASIO.

I would like to be able to play Bitwig as an instrument with low latency. I can do that using ASIO, but when using ASIO all the other application are not able to play audio (which I suppose is normal).

On the other hand I would like to watch some videos in VLC or in the browser and at the same time use Bitwig with low latency.

I tried some stuff with ASIO, jackd, but no success. Is there a way of achieveing what I wnat to do? Maybe using a cirtual device which send audio to Jack?

There’s probably an option in bigwig that allows that. There’s also a windows option in the volume settings panel, for the audio interface you need to check or uncheck. Also make sure windows settings has the same sample rate/bit depth

You need to set the same sample rate in the DAW and in Windows Sounds settings. Then it works.

Assuming you have a real ASIO driver and not "Asio4all".

Finally the solution for me was to send the sound from the browser to VB-Audio's Virtual Audio Cable. Then use ASIO4ALL to create audio interface that groups card output and the Virtual Cable input. Then inside the DAW enable pass-thourgh for Vritual Cable output.

With RME interfaces you can define WDM devices as well that are configured through Windows sounds.

Those work fine beside ASIO with daw. So run VLC that way etc.

I often do reference music while mixing that way to calibrate ears.

Yes, if you use Asio4all you have to resort to convoluted stuff like that to make it work.

With a real ASIO driver that's not necessary. It works by default, if the sample rate is the same. That's one reason why Windows users buy a dedicated soundcard.

VB-Audio's virtual software is called VB-Cable or VB-Audio Virtual Cable. Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) (https://vac.muzychenko.net) is a different one. Please don't confuse them.

Even with an actual ASIO driver (specific to the audio interface, from the manufacturer) the driver needs to be multiclient capable in order to play multiple sources like this. Not all ASIO drivers are, and some have the option to turn on/off multiclient operation, too.
