Hello.

I am trying to learn Cubase 12, and I ma finding it somewhat difficult.

I had started firstly with Computer Music Muzys, when I first started, and, then, -I went on to Mu-Tools, and I found that these softwares were pretty straightforward.

I have my own system (that I created) for making a really weird style of music called microtonal music, and I am trying to do so with Cubase 12 and SCALA.

I have made this style of music in Computer Music Muzys and Mu-Tools.

Typically I do one instrument at a time, and I microtune 12ET *.mid files with it (using the retune MIDI file function in SCALA to do so...), then I put them on a special place on my hard-drive.

After they have been microtuned like this, I then put it back into Cubase 12, then I add instruments and effects etc, etc...

I know how to do this, but I need for someone to show me that basics of Cubase 12, and to show me how to apply the inbuilt instruments Halion and Kontakt to the now microtuned-and-inputted MIDI.

I need to get someone to chat with me and to teach me how to do this, and to apply effects to these instruments.

(I think the drum humanization feature in Cubase is pretty cool, and I would really like to use it, and I need to know if I can use it in Cubase 12 (artist version)).

I have also been experimenting with GPT to write code to modify and mangle *.wav files.

Please remember that I am an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER at Cubase 12, and I find the program complex and difficult, but I am slowly picking up the basics.

Does anyone want to help me with this?

If so, can I please send you some screenshots?

Please advise,

Regards,

Mr. SRU.

A bit off topic but why don't you stick with Mutools? Recently a new version of Mulab has been released and I'm enjoying it a lot.

Yes, you have a point, however it pays to broaden your knowledge, and I do not know if Mu-Tools has a drum humanizer feature...

Post

I have been giving this quite some thought.

I would (indeed) still like to learn Cubase 12 whilst I compose microtonal music with Mu-Tools, in the meanwhile.

So, (after some thought), I have realized that, -I have to:

1.Create a MIDI track in Cubase, fill out the notes, etc...,

2.Humanize this MIDI track with the MIDI modifiers (to humanize velocity, note start/finish/position etc)...,

3.Export MIDI from Cubase to a special place on my computer's hard-drive (I sort of know how to do this already), calling it something like Y2023 14ETa Unmicro.mid (or something like that),

4.Get a microtonal temperament created in SCALA, (such as 14 equal temperament, -(I sort of know how to do this already))

5.Using the "retune MIDI File" function in SCALA, retune the Y2023 14ETa Unmicro.mid file, and export it to a special place on my computer's hard-drive, calling is something like Y2023 14ETa Micro.mid, (I sort of know how to do this already),

6.Import this file Y2023 14ETa Micro.mid to Cubase, (I sort of know how to do this already),

Actually, -I sort of know how to do the above six steps except for step 2 (how to use MIDI modifiers to humanize tightly composed MIDI.I rally, REALLY want to learn how to do this...).

7.I then have to then (somehow, someway...) to apply, and to add Kontakt to the microtuned MIDI, and, also, to apply Halion to the microtuned MIDI. I then need to activate Halion, and to activate the Kontakt sampler (and to add samples to Kontakt) to the now microtuned MIDI file, -but I am unsure as to exactly where to find the information, on how to do this.

(I have looked everywhere and I would appreciate some help with it).

8.I also need to add effects to the microtuned MIDI and instrument, but I am also kind of unsure how to do this, so as you can see, I need help...lots of it!

By the way, all instruments used with SCALA microtuned *.mid files MUST have the capability/capacity to pitch bend else the microtunes will not work, as SCALA used pitch bend for microtonality.

Do you know where there are any videos on YouTube showing me how to do this?

Finally, when I purchased Cubase 12 artist, I noticed that the Groove Agent SE drum VST wasn't included with it, so I need to contact Steinberg customer support to inquire about this.

I am trying to find their E-Mail, but I cannot anywhere.

Does anyone know what their E-Mail address is?

Can anyone help me with my project(s)?

Please advise,

Mr. SRU.

Groove Agent SE is included in every version of Cubase.

Did you install Steinberg Download Assistant?

Like Dogbert said above. Download Assistant. Sound like you might not have? That has a comprehensive list of Cubase-associated stuff you download separately. It took a couple of hours for me (on VDSL), and you can choose which ones to download, as there's shitloads of sample material (multiple GB). For example I left the fancy piano set as I just don't want or need it. Groove Agent stuff is in the list too. So it's not just Cubase Artist you dl...there's a ton of bloat in with useful stuff that's easy to miss.

Where do I get Steinberg Download Assistant?

And, once I have got it, where do I download all the extra stuff that came with Cubase 12 (artist)?

I am a beginner, please realize also.

Thanks for your help, people...

Please advise,

Great news!

I downloaded Steinberg Download Assistant, and I have now got Groove Agent.

It would not work with SeaMonkey but would with Chrome!

I need to know of those packages which I could potentially download with Steinberg download agent, which are free (and came with Cubase 12) and which are not.

I might ring the music shop/store tomorrow, or at least try to talk to Steinberg about this, which packages came with Cubase 12 and which I have to pay for (or do not).

Later on, I need a bit of help with adding instruments (with the capacity to do micro-tuning) to the microtonal music, and to add effects, add panning, add humanization to drums etc...

Thanks a lot you people,

Regards,

Mr. SRU.

When you're in download assistant, when you click on your Cubase a long list of things will come up. They're all Cubase. Most of them are sample sets and programs etc for things like Halion, Groove Agent etc, but some are programmes/plugins that work with/inside Cubase such as Spectralayers etc. You can dl them all if you want. But you don't have to if you don't want, say rock or R'n'B sample sets then you can just leave them alone.

This will help you find which packages are available to you comparison

Here's a Steinberg link for everything that comes with Artist.
https://o.steinberg.net/en/support/down ... st_12.html

Must admit I didn't realise you can d/l them without Download Assistant, and on the list is Retrologue, which I thought had been stopped in Cubase but maybe I imagined that.
As you can see in the link - there's a bunch of programmes and an even longer list of sample/audio that are packs for Halion/Groove Agent. You can d/l ALL of them if you want. When you bought Cubase, you bought all of this stuff too, it's yours already. Just needs downloading.

Halion is their sampler (a very good one too)
Groove Agent (drums - very good too)
Spectralayers (no idea as I haven't even tried it yet)
Padshop 2 - a granular synth thing. Apparently quite good but it does nothing for me - don't see the point of it & a waste of space.
Retrologue - VA synth, kinda useful but nothing amazing. Stock standard and old nowadays.

The sample packs is up to you. D/l/ as many as you think you want.
Verve is their piano sample set - apparently a very good piano, but it's mega GB and unless you really want to play proper piano, to me it's a whole shitload of computer memory for not much (9GB :o) . But their drums and Halion sample sets are all excellent though maybe not your preference. I don't like some of the styles but I have to admit they're quality.

Also, Lo-Fi Piano and Colors are free aditional instruments for Halion Sonic.

Thanks people!

Oh, wow.

What a day.

I started downloading all that Steinberg stuff with the Steinberg downloading assistant, and wouldn't you know it, I ran out of disk space, so I had to shift the downloads section of my computer (which was on the C: drive) to the D: drive that I have.

It has about 855GB free space.

Anyway thanks for the links guys, and I will start reading form that link that you sent me.

I still would like a video to do my first ever microtonal composition in Cubase 12 artist, but I really do not know where to find one for something as niche as this...

Anyway...

I will be in touch soon,

Thanks again, people..,

Mr. SRU.
