Who's using software editors for their hardware synths?

Happy MIDIQuest user here, finally gave in and bought it a couple years ago. Have been holding on to my Sound Diver setup in a virtual machine for years now, but something happened to both VirtualBox and VMWare Fusion a year or two ago, where my AMT8 midi interface just crashes Windows XP now. It wont recognize it anymore, and anytime I try reinstalling the driver, it instantly crashes XP hah.

MIDIQuest took some getting used to, I'm still not as 'fluent' with it as I was Sound Diver, but for archiving libraries and making patches its good to go. And unlike SD, I can edit my Rev 2 and Bass Station 2 with it and the Blofeld editor is A LOT more stable and doesn't require any weird MIDI-OX workarounds..

Soundtower editors for Sequential are bad. I used to use Codeknobs instead for Sequential, but he hasn't added any new synths recently. I use Sigabort Midisynth for Peak.

Yeah, Soundtower always disappoints me, too. I might need to check out the Codeknobs for my Rev2 and SIgabort for my Peak.

I don't know why people complain so much about the SoundTower editors. Perhaps it's because people are using the plugin versions?

i use the standalone versions for the Prophet REV2, Tetra, Evolver desktop, MicroWave, and MicroWave II XT. The MicroWave and Microwave II XT editors are clearly ancient. They really need a complete rewrite. But functionally they do what they're supposed to do and almost never crash on me.

The Dave Smith / Sequential editors are rock solid. Yeah, SoundTower could improve the usability of these editors. But they work fine for my purposes.

Unfortunately, Patch Base currently doesn't support some of the most popular hardware synthesizers. And then there's the fact that their editors look like iPad apps (which are also available on the Patch Base site).

Have you tried their Blofeld editor? I might have to check that one out.

No, but I have the Clavia Nord Lead 2 editor. That seems to work really well once I got used to the iPad-style interface.

I had tested several editors and also bought some. Midiquest, Virus Commander, editors from Rekon for the Nord and Virus... They all worked, but if you want to use a Midi connection more than once, it's a bit awkward, at least under Windows.
That was also the reason for me not to use editors any more. I simply save the midi dump directly in the project.

I see it needs a java download for Windows..but it says it works with the E-mu Morpheus. Not sure if you have to set it up or if there is a template for the Morpheus built in?

I've used something called Morphit..it's very old, the programmer gave it away and said it might work on Windows 97 (it's that old).

I find the new editors great and easy, e.g the OB6 soundtower one, Overbridge etc.

Less easy are the ones for the older synths, largely because of the cabling here..plus I've noticed that the MIDI thru and MIDI merge boxes seem to cause issues.
