Hey all, I'm looking into some libraries for solo orchestral instruments. Basically I want use them in a more educational setting where students can identify instruments, but I want to configure what they play. So they need to be realistic enough that as a solo instrument they don't sound too awkward.
Any ideas? Different price tiers would be appreciated as well.

Soundpaint is an option, but not sure about solo or teacher friendly. Most of these soundpacks have presets that have extra layers and effects but you can turn them off.

I don't think Soundpaint has a full selection of orchestral instruments.
And that would get real expensive, real fast.
Virtual Playing Orchestra is free and includes solo instruments.

If you decide to purchase a full collection of orchestral instruments, it's going to be expensive. Especially for solo instruments. So make sure you check to see if they have an educational discount.

Yeah Soundpaint is not an orchestral library at all. It's just a sample player you'd have to get all the instruments for.
I suggest Amadeus. $149, has all solo instruments, and sounds very good IMO: https://sonicscores.com/amadeus/
If you don't want to spend even $149 (most if not all orchestral libraries cost a good bit more), I'd check out the freebies, although I'm not sure how full-featured they are or not with solo instruments:
VSCO
Palette
Alpine Project

PS if all you care about is the sounds, absolutely check The Alpine Project. Good quality sounds, simple interface and oh btw free. No fancy articulations and mic positions etc but doesn't sound like you need them.

Audio Imperia Solo if wanting a bundle of them rather than getting one at a time. Best price is Black Friday sales usually, otherwise $300. Works in Kontakt Player as well.

The BBC Symphony Orchestra Discovery includes 33 instruments, including percussion.
Good quality sounds with some articulations. And it's FREE:
