DC offset/bias plugin?

Is there a simple plugin that lets you adjust the dc offset bias? There is a M4L device that does this (https://maxforlive.com/library/device/6 ... io-dc-tool) but a VST would be nice for increased stability etc.
If you are wondering what the point is, if you put it before saturation, it can really change the sound, especially on drums. You can get a nice, almost gated crunch. Some saturation plugins already have this built-in (usually called "bias"), but most of them don't.

As far as I can tell, that's a DC filter, which is not the same as DC offset, which iirc changes the phase of DC frequencies.WasteLand wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:07 pm i only know this one:

I've typically thought of DC offset as a bad thing to be fixed.dubguy99 wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:00 pm if you put it before saturation, it can really change the sound, especially on drums. You can get a nice, almost gated crunch.

Do you have an example of this sound? Could it not be attained by another method, a gate or distortion? Nice, almost gated crunch on drums seems like an effect attainable with a bitcrusher.

Demo Audiority's Pyros and crank the bias knob to -100%. You'll hear what it does. Its a way to change how your distortion reacts. Arturia's Culture Vulture also has it, as does the distortion in Shaperbox, there it's called "push".kidslow wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:46 pmI've typically thought of DC offset as a bad thing to be fixed.dubguy99 wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:00 pm if you put it before saturation, it can really change the sound, especially on drums. Interesting. I will definitely explore. Perhaps you can use one of the repair tools named in that article to push the offset in the "wrong" direction? It named ProTools DC Offset Removal, Reaper JS:DC Filter, and Izotope Ozone & RX.

MUtility is MUCH more than DC filter...and of course it can change DC offset! /math-add DC/dubguy99 wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:37 pmAs far as I can tell, that's a DC filter, which is not the same as DC offset, which iirc changes the phase of DC frequencies.WasteLand wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:07 pm i only know this one:

Thanks, that kind of works. I didn't see it cause it just says "add" and wasn't listed under the DC section.kvaca wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 9:35 pmMUtility is MUCH more than DC filter...and of course it can change DC offset!

Trusty Ableton Utility is always hard at work on the masterNAD wrote: Tue Mar 21, 2023 9:44 pm Adding pure DC offset is risky, speakers do not like that. To be on the safe side you may want to put a DC filter on your master bus (any high-pass should do).

If ya in Ableton, you can use something that has a control voltage in Max For Live that you can just output which will be DC, you can Draw DC in Serum/most synths with a wavetable editor and feed that along with whatever you wish to bias into the nonlinear effect and control the amount by automating the volume of that osc, but you wont be able to get it pos and neg on the same table. In that case, you could try duplicating the osc into the other osc window, flipping the polarity and sending both the volumes to a macro with one of the mod depths inverted
Most FM synths that let you set a ratio of nothing and using a ramp wave will give you DC offset as well. If you send that to another operator, you have a phase rotator essentially

Well, its just adding a value to the signal. The most simple code imaginable. In a DAW like Bitwig a DC offset is built in… But you need to get rid of it after the distortion again. It should be combined with a DC remover, basically a one pole highpass with a very low frequency like 2-5 Hz…
