I'm going to be selling my Cubase 12 license. But I'm new here to KVR...So....

I'm planning on selling my Cubase License as well as a few other plugins. I think I know what forum to use for that and I'm totally clear about the process that Steinberg has in place to do a transfer of license as well.
However, I'm super new to KVR. In fact, this is my first post, even though I've spent many years being a lurker and learning about all things audio-related here. And I realize that selling online is risky, especially with someone you don't know. I can only imagine how many people have gotten ripped off by scumbags on here. I've seen all the posts and threads about people's bad experiences, and warning advisories reminding people to be careful
So, I just don't even know how to begin to gain people's trust when selling stuff. I know there's not this exact quantifiable science, as the only "real" way is to just constantly post and contribute to conversations and make myself known in the long haul. I don't even know if people even get chummy here and make friends like with social media. I have a lot to learn about proper KVR etiquette, and I just KNOW I'll make several mistakes. Hell, I don't even know if this post is even necessary, or will be found in poor tastes because I haven't spoken about anything musical in it.
But because I have to get the products I want to sell on the market forum right away, I just don't know if I have the chance to sell them in a reasonable amount of time (I mean, several months is an unreasonable amount of time. I don't mean like THAT DAY or even next week. Even though that would rule).
Anyway, Thank you kindly to anyone who reads and responds to my little rant here.

You could find an interested party, send the license to them, let them activate it and then ask for the money. This would negate the need to build anyone’s trust, as the burden of trust is then placed wholly upon yourself.

That's true, and if I knew the person AND it was with any other software or plugin, I would totally be down for that if I felt I could trust them on my (I mean, they could just take the license and run and get a free, legit license. Trust is a two-way street). But as I said, I'd be ok with that with normal software because the process isn't that tricky handing over the keys and then rolling back if I needed to. However, with Steinberg products, you need to send them a License transfer request in which they remove my name from their database and send me a new access code to download and activate it on their end. I wouldn't have the ability to roll that back easily, and they could have the ability to just have a free copy of Cubase 12. I won't do that this way for now. But thank you for the reply and suggestion. What I think I'm just going to do is be an active member of this community and not worry about selling things for now. I can see the value in just being here on KVR's forums Talking shop and just letting it all happen naturally.

It's been so long since I've posted on a BB proper, I forget there's this "quote' thing to use. I'm so used to stupid social media post forms that have no features.Jamface wrote: Tue Apr 04, 2023 11:01 am You could find an interested party, send the license to them, let them activate it and then ask for the money. Instead of selling a high priced item like Cubase, try selling lower priced items first to get used to the process and gain some trust. Ask your buyers to leave feedback in the feedback thread: viewtopic.php?t=74467
Of course you could also buy items from forum members to get some feedback there. With your name mentioned in the feedback thread, people will start to trust you.

Man, that's exactly the advice I was looking for! Thank you. You're totally right, and I going to do exactly what you suggested.Raketenbauer wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2023 6:49 am Instead of selling a high priced item like Cubase, try selling lower priced items first to get used to the process and gain some trust. That's why you use standard Paypal money request, not for family and friends.
Send a request for payment, don't ask the seller to make a transaction. They make a lot of mistakes, and your Paypal will automatically accept the transfer - which is a problem.
Describe in the request description exactly what you're asking money for, what is the process, how many days it will take at maximum, what is the exact license you will be transferring, to which email.
The buyer should read and agree with the process.
Worst case Paypal will help to resolve the issue between you and the buyer if you don't fulfill your obligations.

I usually make a risk assessment based on other criteria before a users buy/sale history or how new they are if that info is visible.
On Knobcloud If there's no picture on the listing I don't even look at them. If you can figure out how to make an account and post a title for sale you should be able to figure out how to at least take a screen shot and upload it lol.
If there's a picture I'll then click into the posting if interested, but if there's no text description, I usually don't look any further unless super interested and there's no other listing that instills more confidence. Best case tell me why you're selling it (Don't use it, didn't like it, cutting down on number of plugins/daws, bought another plugin of the same category and putting the $$$ towards that, quitting music, etc.) or at the very minimum copy/paste the developer description for the plugin. Basically show some humanity and that you're not a bot or scammer in some other country.
Also adding "Message me with any questions" is a nice touch as most scammers won't want to be conversing with someone, but rather just do a grab-n-dash. maybe chatGPT/AI is changing this, but the offer adds a level of confidence for me. I'll message ppl just to see if I get a response, which you can also glean risk info from.
So if it's your first/only listing and you're asking several hundred dollars for a software title and it's a blank thumbnail and blank description, that's an lol and hard pass on my end.
This is just my MO but so far I've been lucky and have had no issues getting scammed here on KVR or KnobCloud, and tbh I'm not too worried about it given my personal screening process.
