We are happy to announce to you our new release: Dark Memory

Image

The Dark Memory is a faithful simulation of the Electro-Harmonix® Memory Man™ EH7810, a late 70’s BBD echo and chorus pedal.

This “economy” version of the Memory Man™ features an under-clocked 1024-stages BBD chip, delivering a very dark and characterful delay sound.

We went further and added their classic STEREO mode, where L/R output phases are 180° apart from each other, a DELAY EXTENSION that replaces the factory BBD chip with a 4096-stages one, increasing the delay time up to 4 seconds, and more.

Specifications
  • BBD Analog Delay/Chorus simulation
  • Authentic emulation with reduced bandwidth (according to delay time)
  • Delay Time (MN3005 up to 310ms – RD5108A up to 4s)
  • Feedback and Blend
  • Boost
  • Delay Extension
  • Tempo Sync
  • Vintage Stereo mode
  • Modulation
  • Stereo Spread
  • Ducking
  • Pre and Post effect gain
  • Mix control
  • Resizable interface

Personal note:
This specific Memory Man sounds very different from the most well known big brother, the Deluxe Memory Man. The EH7810 was an economy version of the Memory Man and, in order to keep the cost down, there is no compander in the circuit. Furthermore, they used a single BBD chip under-clocking it to get longer delay times. The high frequency loss caused by the under-clocking also helped in keeping the noise floor down resulting in a VERY dark and characterful rendition of this iconic delay pedal.

This is definitely not the most all-purpose delay, so I strongly advice you to demo it before purchasing due to its strong dark character.

Hope you're gonna love it as much as I did!

Cheers,
Luca

Is it BBD echo/delay month? :D

Will definitely check it out later. The existing customers price is tempting.

With Dark Side of the Moon celebrating its 50th anniversary? Sure it's a delay month! :D

Another masterpiece from Audiority.

But I do remember seeing Deluxe Memory Man on your FB page a few years back.

Or is my memory... dark?

Might be mistaken for one, but we always had this nice EH7810. You can spot it in the pic, along with Leo guarding the gear zone

I'm a sucker for any EH or Boss emulations (I see that CE-2 behind Leo! Hi Leo!!! Who is a good boy? You are!).

Won't even get the chance to demo for a few hours but how is this at taking at hotter levels? I almost feel like Audiority stuff is a little too accurate and wants a reamp box before the pedal emulations. Others have that "Vintage/Modern" mode, but it's even easy to overdrive those too so I end up usually using Modern mode then still backing off the Input like -12db and compensating on the Output, but that can get noisy if overdone.

Also, do we have the ability to type in Input/Output values yet?

This is a really nice delay, guys! I've only tried it on guitar so far, but that dark sound with stereo modulation creates a beautiful pad underneath the signal.

I have a bunch of DMMs, but never heard this version. Thanks Audiority!

Is that the infamous Monte Allums mod CE-2 in the pic? Still struggling to revert it back to the default schemo or there is hope on the horizon?

Someone just mail Luca a stock, silver screw CE-2 please! Just for a little bit. :)

If only I had it, I'd totally send and fully expect to get it back. Luca is a cool cat and always played nice.

You would send it back, would you, Luca? :hihi: Vintage, early 80's MIJ Black Label CE-2. You know, now that I think of it, maybe not. Think I'd have to call Sicilians to get it back. But we won't go there. Not at this point.

Audiority CE-2 would warrant opening a bottle of a fine red, but if this ever comes out of Capozzi manufacturing facilities, I'm opening that 1953 Dom Perignon Sir Sean Connery gave my father on his birthday. https://tauruselectronicdesign.nl/produ ... 03729628ad

This needs to happen in software. It's a beautiful thing, it touches the sound inappropriately in all the right places. Them sexy Dutch people made it. Of course they would! Who else?

Unless someone wants to emulate this Japanese "baby elephant". Could anybody sacrifice like a half of your living room to store this peculiar freaky freezer for a while? It'd be greatly appreciated in spirit.

No I believe you're just remebering Luca's "Electric Matter" EHX Electric Mistress sim.
Having owned an original Mistress I was quite pleased with the plugin. I'll definitely
be getting this one too! I owned an original three knob Memory Man back in the day.
It definitely has that murky dark sound. I later "upgraded" to the Deluxe version.
Though it had more features, it lacked some of the earlier unit's lo-fi charm. I regretted
having sold the original. I'd replace it but vintage originals go for silly money these days.
A bit above my paygrade. Though I'm sure this plugin is lovely, I will still miss being able
to "play" the knobs with my feet.

Purchased.

I like it better as a chorus than a delay, though. Reminds me of my hardware BBD chorus pedal a bit (Walrus Julianna).

That said, a note on the UX: while I appreciate the desire to look like a guitar pedal, this is a software interface interacted with using a mouse (typically). Putting so many controls small along a row at the bottom, when there's SO MUCH empty space used for a fake pedal box, may not be the best UX. I'd love to see an exploration of pushing the physical hardware aspect further into the background and designing the controls to be more usable for software rather than pushed aside for the visuals that don't help me with how things sound. I've been thinking this more and more with the Audiority pedals as I buy many of them. It won't stop me from purchasing because they sound great and there's not that many controls in total, but it does irk me a bit.

It's a double-edged sword, I guess. You can't please everybody, that sorta thing.

Myself, I'm totally in favor of current Audiority UX designs. I got around using Electric Matter and Chorus Ensembler pretty quickly. Dark Memory, copying Electric Matter UX very much, shouldn't be a problem either.

On the other hand, PolyChrome DSP McRocklin Suite UX put me off at first. I still got it, because the sound comes first and I wanted to support the guys, but it's not my ideal representation of an amp sim. I'm very used to amps looking like amps with the whole knobs layout and everything. It's completely subjective, yes.

If I had a very, very slight, nitpicky irk about Dark Memory UX, it's that the blue color looks different and imo better on the original pedal. It's lighter and looks cooler on that gray background. In the plugin the color is darker and it looks off IMO.
