I have a ongoing list of possible bands names (at home) that's up to almost 1000 entries.

Some that come to mind (these are not real bands):

i remember a band called special guest.

they started as supporters,

tonight: Part 2 featuring special guest

a little later they were locally known, and another band, that was still unknown, announced a special guest, and lots of people went there just to see special guest, which were not there at all, but just some other singer

I love the name for my own main project:
'TorpedoTorpedo' - while everyone thinks of submarine-torpedos it has a completely different meaning - Torpedo is the latinum (scientific)name for electric rays. TorpedoTorpedo is a certain electric ray. Rays are beautyful and elegant animals but the electric ones are full of energy you won't notice unless you touch them/they touch you.
Besides I love the sound of the name.

edit: to explain it further:

so the name is for me a rephrasing of my 'more than meets the eye'-philosophy.

(Contrary to John's 'look here - I'm the new Jesus - ain't my word enough to prove it?'-approach.

)

B.t.w.: I'm planning to distribute my more electronic music under the name 'Peste Electric' which is the romanian name of the - yes, your guess is right - TorpedoTorpedo.

So it sounds like a rehash of My Dying Bride? Right.

It scans pretty badly, IMO.

I like the old psychedelic band names. Moby Grape, Chocolate Watch Band, Strawberry Alarm Clock. Lothar and the Hand People, that sorta thing. And of course, the 13th Floor Elevators.

The f**king Champs is another great name.
