I've been using Europa recently (VST version that I got from when I had Reason 10). What a nice synth! Easy to program and a drag and drop modulation system. I used it for all instruments in my latest song, including bass. It doesn't have the aggressive edge of Serum but it works pretty nice and the distortion module is very versatile and it can take it there!

I have an active 90 day trial of R+ that I might install today. Fricktion is indeed superb and unmatched. Parsec, Scenic, Complex-1, Algoritm, and Grain are all first class, also. Insane collection of instrumnts+fx.

Studio Saturn wrote: Mon Apr 03, 2023 4:41 am Using Reason as an FX tool is much better than using the DAW. I use Reason VST frequently if not always. But I don't use the DAW that much ever since they introduce the plugin. Until they bring m1 native support it is kind of hit and miss. If you know Reason instruments has a builtin FX i.e kong and you can isolate and use the FX because of that I use the VST version in a mix more often if not in every mix. It is a very good FX box thing to have in your disposal.
I dont feel the m1 compatibility being very much an issue as rosetta is working extremely well with reason.
Yet I agree on the DAW, somehow for me bitwig is on another league (but it is also a question of taste). As an fx or instrument, it is awesome (Kong is an instrument by the way, not an fx afaik).
Reason Instruments can be used like an FX that is the beauty of it. Flip the back side adjust the routing and you are good to go. You don't have to use it like instrument. :tu:

I only use it as a plugin, mostly for its players.

Subtractor is still my main synth that really like to use with in Cubase.

Friktion: you have to buy it on top but it is the best physical modeling synth on the market, period. The emulation of violin, guitar or flute are from another world
If it were a straight VST/CLAP/AU plugin and also M1/2 Native I would purchase it.

Using the RRP is like using Komplete Kontrol. I don't really have a huge issue with that.

The lack of Apple Silicon Native is the big issue, specifically for people who don't use DAWs that support Audio Units. The VST3 will force you to run everything through Rosetta 2, so it isn't worth it to me in that situation. The performance sacrifice is too big.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.

I use it for the players and sometimes, FX.

Actually, are there any M4L devices that come anywhere close to chord sequencer, bass generator and pattern mutator? These things are the biggest strength of Reason right now.

I use Reason 11 rack in Bitwig. For Friktion alone it is worth it. I have not a single reason to use it as a DAW. I am too happy with Bitwig, can‘t even imagine that the DAW version delivers anything useful…

Use it as a plugin and as a DAW. Synths are great, effects as well, therefore for me there was no need to buy more (did it anyway last Black Friday, but barely use anything outside of Reason/Ableton). Reason has every kind of synth one need, and I know how to manipulate them, don't want to learn new VSTs really.

I like to have the whole chain inside the Reason plugin it's very convenient and have a better DAW capabilities (in Ableton).

Can't agree more than that...

It is pretty impressive how a 20+ year old Softsynth stood the test of time. I think it's simplicity makes it good for quickly programming something.

Reason 12 as a VST works fine on Linux (Wine) so, *yeeeeah! buddy!* is my humble answer 8) :tu:
And if the extension ABL3 works and i'll asume all extensions work?.. then

It is very interesting this. In the Reasontalk forum one said that the Reason synths is equal or even beaten by freeware vsti if i remember correctly, but here the Reason synths almost seems like the best thing since sliced bread. :)

One may say that but in reasontalk you will also find a lot of die hard defenders of Rack Extensions.

Antidote, Exhale, VK2 for example are generally getting rave reviews. Count also friktion or grain from RS...

After, in the freeware realm, I remind you that you have vital... so freeware isn't an insult...
