I've listened to the audio demos... is it me or does everything just sounds flat and distorted when the effect is on? I haven't tried the demo so maybe it's better in person, but the audio demos are IMO horrible.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

just tested V2.... and I quite like it. Never tried V1 though.
the autogain works very well on this.
It might be the lovely GUI but I'm enjoying the sound that this makes.

equally heavy when using the "ultra-x" mode.... without it it works just fine though.
It is a shame however that the frequency response shifts upwards when oversampling (ultra-x mode). it means you can't blindly choose oversampling during mixdown because it alters your mix.

after further testing I still gotta say I dig it.
Without oversampling it's way less CPU hungry compared to the IK ones. With Ultra-X mode it's even more hungry though. The frequency shift in U-X is audible but so far it didn't bother me too much (sometimes it sounds even better - still predictability would be a plus, when using it in busy projects on slower machines where you can't use oversampling on all plug-ins in realtime).
the big plus it has over the IK machines is the auto gain, which works beautifully and is something I always hated on the IK Tape Machines (the fact that there is none).
Soundwise it's not better or worse than the IK Machines imo. They do sound very similar, the IK ones (80 and 6100) being a bit punchier in the lower registers and maybe a bit more 3D at times. Other tape emulators like Baby Audio TAIP or Wavesfactory Cassette sound way different and with the inclusion of noise, wow and flutter seem to be aiming at a different use anyway (don't get me wrong I would've loved a noise OPTION for all tape plug-ins I own because I dig low level tape noise - wow and flutter however I couldn't care less about).
