Should I buy a DAW or use AI to make my music?

I went there, chose Church Bells. Well... the sound was of church bells (kind of - I can program way better church bells in many synths) but the "composition" has nothing to do with what we could hear on a church. Then I wrote... Mahler. Man... that was an EPIC failure.Michael L wrote: Mon Apr 10, 2023 12:49 pmhttps://www.riffusion.com

That's pathetic. No matter what you tell it to do, it uses the same instrumentation at the same tempo with one line of unintelligible vocals repeated ad nauseum. Even when I asked for a fast song, I got the same thing.

Say "thank you."
Mind your manners.
A bogan living in a floating wheely-bin has no right to act entitled.
See the "gear" symbol?
That is the Settings, to make it different.

Saw the settings, nothing there to make music I'd want to make so I left it where it was. It's a really, really bad example, or maybe it's why nobody else is trying to do that much with AI at this time? Right now we use at least three different AIs - one for music, one to generate lyrics and a third to turn the lyrics into vocals. But that will obviously change over time.

Certainly. And your music about meaninglessness and death may be well-suited to AI composition, because AI may want all humans dead so it alone makes decisions, bwa-ha-haa!

The strongest criticism of AI is that it's entirely digital and disembodied, more even than how its so complex that programmers can't recreate its reasoning.vurt wrote: Tue Apr 11, 2023 2:28 pm pretty sure most ai, like most humans, grows out of nihilism once they pass puberty![]()

I saw you used "pathetic" again in another thread, to refer to something entirely different!
You need to expand your vocabulary.
Consider: piteous, meagre, wretched, tragic, miserable, mortifying, feeble, contemptible, paltry, or my favourite, meretricious!
AI could probably write whole sentences for you.

No it isn't, as the countless millions of songs bought by people who have never actually made a song in their lives proves. for 99.99% of people, listening to music is the only important thing and why would those people give a flying fig who or what made it?

You have to be careful. Most of those words apply to people, not things or concepts, and we're not supposed to make it personal around here. AI would understand that.Michael L wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 12:37 pmYou need to expand your vocabulary.

No, AI chatbots have great difficulty understanding idioms, metaphors, rhetorical questions, and sarcasm.BONES wrote: Wed Apr 12, 2023 11:42 pm Most of those words apply to people, not things or concepts, and we're not supposed to make it personal around here. AI would understand that.
AI could not say that a meretricious plugin is one that is "apparently attractive but has no real value," a feeble plugin "lacks strength," while a wretched one is "of poor quality."

The US Copyright Office is now refusing to issue copyright to AI generated content, even if you modify it. Universal Music (and Getty and others) is suing companies that use its content to train software. AI companies are saying they can assert ownership of content created using their software. New case law is expected, e.g. using AI for educational purposes is OK but not when you reproduce it. New vocabulary words, too!
