I’m wondering if people feel like the extra Amps/pedals included in Tonex MAX are worth the extra $50. Does it seem like a lot of filler, or is there gold in them thar hills? Would it make more sense to buy the basic version and buy commercial add-ons.

A bit about me, I like variety and very eclectic sounds from my amps. I’ve already got an AxeFX that I really like, but I think it’s also fun to explore stuff that’s not popular enough for anyone to model.

To be honest I can't answer ur question, since i haven't gone thru rhe majority of captures. I just got tired of trying to load a capture only to be told I need to upgrade. Eventually i upgraded to max and haven't had the issue since :).

There's some good stuff in TONEX Max over standard. Lots of guitar pedals, the Dumble (which I don't love honestly), some Tweeds and other Fender amps that aren't in standard (I think the 59 Bassman for example). If its' only an extra $50, it's worth it IMO.

Where do you get the 50€ number from? Last I looked, it was 199€ to go from Tonex to Max.

I'd also remind folks that the TONEX pedal includes an NFR version TONEX Max. So if you're thinking of spending a few hundred bucks, ask yourself: what's the likelihood that I might want this in hardware form if I dig the software? It may be more economical to just jump to buying the pedal in that case.

If the thing had decent time-based FX, I'd have gone for it. As is, it still needs those FX. Batteries would also be nice, say I wanted to go shred out in the garden on a nice day. But the pedal, TONEX and Amplitube together is a good deal. But I already have the equivalent of Amplitube 5 MAXX and Tonex.
I'll use my BOSS-GT-1 in the gahden.

I see that regular Tonex is $149 and Max is $199. Maybe that’s because I own a bunch of IK stuff? (I can also use my Jam Points, but that’s another story.)

I seriously doubt I’ll ever want to play a live show ever again.

That's just the usual IK pricing policies - people with little get rewarded much more than existing owners wanting to upgrade. That said, wait long enough and a good deal usually comes around for existing owners too.

I'm not gigging either, but I'm a building a pedalboard around TONEX so I can jam via headphones in my living room or wherever without having to turn on a computer or deal with the volume of my amps. But yeah, not suggesting everyone rush out and buy the pedal, but if anyone thinks they may want it someday, it's cheaper to start with the pedal and just get TONEX Max free versus paying $199 for TONEX Max, then deciding you want the $399 pedal anyway and buying that too.

Different people will be in different situations. Had I known the TONEX pedal was going to be a thing, I probably would not have bought the TONEX software when I did (might've just checked out the CS version). So I ended up paying twice (first got regular TONEX, probably at $99 minus Jam points). But I do love it so I'm not complaining.

I just tried to do the upgrade. Nope. It's 199€. 237€ with VAT. Minus my 20 jampoints. 217€. Not out of my wallet.

You already own TONEX right? IK doesn't offer upgrades from version to version. Maybe try contacting support and see if they'd be willing to offer you a deal.

I think the OP was considering buying new. The difference between price of TONEX [standard] at $149 and TONEX Max at $199 is only $50.

It's ok. There's already enough for me. Maybe if they keep adding more non-metal clean/drive tones I'll ask.

WTF? There’s no upgrade price from Tonex to Tonex Max?! How absolutely stupid of them.

I’m telling you, I think the engineers over there are doing great work, but the whole business end of things… they seem pathetic.

IK has never done that.

Their pricing model is based on enticing new customers with "crossgrade for a discount if you own any IK product over $99" where everyone qualifies, but there are no upgrade discounts for prior users (example Amplitube 4 users didn't get a bigger discount on Amplitube 5 than anyone else who owns any IK product over $99) or ways to upgrade between versions (outside of buying Custom Shop modules for Amplitube, or individual T-Racks to round out your collection).

It's very convoluted and not very customer-focused IMO. But it's nothing new. That's how they've been doing business for a LONG time now. Every time they release a major update to a product, there are pages and pages of complaints about it, or people asking questions because they're confused.

But, see if support can help/work with you. Maybe they'll offer deals if you contact them directly.
