I love Native Instruments and look forward to all future updates, but I think they hurt themselves by getting too deep into the hardware market. I don’t mind that mostly what they release now are soundpack kinds of things because they are all integrated into their products. I find it a total pain to load preset libraries for other synths and such. Too much to keep track of file wise.
I hope they are around forever because I love having all the installers in one place. I hate ikmultimedia other than TRacks and MixBox. UVI is pretty good, but I found their interface to be harder than NIs. Steinberg Halion is great, but I hate the elicenser.
I’m not aware of another company that offers as much as Ni does in an easy to install manner..?
I’m not

Right off the top of my head, I'd suggest Arturia.vata44 wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:21 pmI’m not aware of another company that offers as much as Ni does in an easy to install manner..?

They still make reaktor which is an amazing tool for all sorts of synthesis and kontakt which is still an industry standard for sample based instruments. As long as they keep these two things going they will remain a major player in electronic music regardless of whatever dumb content they try to sell on top of that. Really if they hadn't decided to discontinue half of their best products (that still functioned properly on modern systems) , I would have zero negative feelings towards them. I do have a sneaking suspicion that their merger with iZotope will possibly make them stupid......

I will upgrade my Kontakt 6 to version 7 if they have another summer sale where it's $25. I got it a few years back because it's industry standard, though I've only used it once since.
Native Instruments needs to survive to keep Kontakt alive, but other than that, they're pretty irrelevant in 2023.

They’ve always had great developers and short sighted bean counters in marketing and running the company. The merger will change nothing there, it just rules out them changing at all! NI IMO are the Microsoft and Apple of the plug in industry, they aren’t going anywhere. The Kontakt ecosystem alone prevents that from happening.Ah_Dziz wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:31 pm They still make reaktor which is an amazing tool for all sorts of synthesis and kontakt which is still an industry standard for sample based instruments. Really? You don't think that most of the electronic music that has been in the charts since 2017 or so were mostly made with either a combo of Sylenth & Splice samples/loops or Serum & Splice samples/loops?Ah_Dziz wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:31 pmAs long as they keep these two things going they will remain a major player in electronic music regardless of whatever dumb content they try to sell on top of that.

On the contrary. I would join the kids dancing on the lawn.. I just don't believe the notion that Native Instruments is still a 'major player' in electronic music based on Kontakt and Reaktor.gaggle of hermits wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:23 amare the kid on your lawn again?LFO8 wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 7:07 amReally? I doubt the majority of electronic musicians will ever have a song on or near "the charts". I don't personally know anyone that makes music with a computer for a living that doesn't have kontakt. And then most of them have Komplete.

also "electronic music" doesn't just mean "dance genres" there's a world of electronic outside of that.

I don’t think they’re stupid. In fact, I think they’re actually really smart. They obviously found a business model that generates money and probably needs little engineering support. My anger stems from the fact that I used to be their core (pun intended) demographic. I felt like they were making things almost specifically for me. Now they seem to be making things that specifically exclude me. It’s fine. There are plenty of things out there that are more suited to how I use software, but it sure would be nice if they made their abandoned software open source or gave it back to their original developers. Mostly I’m talking about Absynth, though other synths more or less can cover most of what it does.Ah_Dziz wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 9:31 pm They still make reaktor which is an amazing tool for all sorts of synthesis and kontakt which is still an industry standard for sample based instruments.
