DX7 has noisy DAC which is exactly what we dont like in the digital world, especially when its analog noise (or digital).

I think Lennard Addink is on par with Kemper personally, Sylenth1 is old and yet sounds as good or better than almost every other synth out there. Sure there are other good synths, for different reasons, some are more authentic to analogue (U-He) Some are clearer and super clean, Serum. Some just have idiosyncrasies you personally like or suite a genre better.
But Sylenth1 is kind of soft synth perfection. I assume that Lennard Addink has as good ears as Kemper did.
Amazing to create a synth that became that popular and still no one beats it. He is the softsynth master.
He made 1 synth and blew every other away, forever. It even sounds better than a virus at times. Yes it is more solid than virus sometimes. Amazing achievement.
Lennard Addink a name we should remember much more often than we do.

Good ears, Sylenth1 has an amazing sound not duplicated and is a fantastic achievement still. One of the best sounding synths still. Sylenth1 is great even if we have Spire now.Synthman2000 wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 5:46 pm I think Lennard Addink is on par with Kemper personally, Sylenth1 is old and yet sounds as good or better than almost every other synth out there. Also of note.. he paid the same attention to sonic detail to the extremely usable effects section
as he did the synthesis itself.
as he did the synthesis itself.

Unfortunately, the reverb sounds pretty bad.Synthman2000 wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 6:41 pm Also of note.. he paid the same attention to sonic detail to the extremely usable effects section

Distortion sounds bad with chords, mere noise.

I agree with that, though. CPU load is much too high for the sound quality. Even if the sound were slightly better than with other synths, the difference does not justify the CPU load. For some people CPU load is still an important aspect.Synthman2000 wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 1:53 pm Sylenth1 if you do not already own it. I am using Diva a little more than I usually do and I am finding it a little lo fi a tad dull and slightly underwhelming. It's ok, even good at times.
Certainly not better than Sylenth1. And Sylenth1 is far superior when it comes to quality vs CPU usage ratio.
Diva is little bit of a joke on the CPU. I often get a feeling it should sound better for its CPU usage and that is with multi core on. It is almost funny to hear some basic cheesy sound and see my CPU jump to 50pct.
When it comes to VA for my money Sylenth1 is still the softsynth to beat.

Set Accuracy to Draft and set Offline Acc to Best, then bounce it down when you're ready to mix. Even my base model 2011 MacBook Air can handle a several voices when set to Draft.Sawtooth Fairy wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 10:36 pm I agree with that, though. Anyway, comparing Sylenth1 to DIVA is completely nonsensical. That's like saying "My Jupiter-8 doesn't do EP sounds as well as my DX7, so the DX7 must be better!"

The cleverest answer would have been "a word". Providing a definition answers a different question.
I've always thought it was a very ordinary synth with a couple of really poor aspects to it. Easily the most over-rated VST plugin of all time. Even if it was free, I doubt I'd use it. It's just not that good.

This is a questions aimed at Urs and the UHE team…
I am just curious, could you have made Diva even more high quality? Like at the expense of even more CPU?
I feel like someone needs to cripple even the newer 10+ core CPUs just because they can, for that extra mojo “if” anymore mojo can be squeezed out. I am really curious what Diva’s double, quadruple, octuple “Divine Mode” would do. Where is the ceiling? Have we reached pointless diminishing returns? Would you have to introduce unusable latency to go to the next level of high quality?

Interestingly, buying a new "better" synth often helped me understand and optimize stock/outdated plugins true potential.
