They're Alive! Sonalksis plugins with Apple M1 Silicon support

Plugin pioneers Sonalksis still appear to be going strong and have recently released Apple M1 Silicon support.
I was surprised to discover this while visiting their website. Their Windows plugins have been updated as well. I've owned their plugin bundle for probably 10 years, and I don't think I've ever received a single email from them.

Apparently, news of their death has been greatly exaggerated...

Having given up long ago on Sonalksis, I too stumbled across their Apple Silicon support recently, but only to find out after installing them again, there's still no VST3 support and AU is not detected by Logic Pro, so no idea which market they're targeting if they are still alive!

Back when they first came out, they were really something exceptional. By the standards of today, I think they lack in just about every way. I still own almost everything they made but I can't remember the last time I used any of them. There are so much better options available now.

Appart from their Digital Grimebox. I still haven't heard so jucy bitcrusher plugin (d16 is close, but the CPU load is ridiculous).trmupstage wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 8:31 pm Back when they first came out, they were really something exceptional. i've had the compressor a long time. just ran the licenser/installer app and there's no update beyond v3.20 which is not apple silicon native according to apple's activity manager

Is it true, no VST3?adduco wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 12:09 pm Having given up long ago on Sonalksis, I too stumbled across their Apple Silicon support recently, but only to find out after installing them again, there's still no VST3 support and AU is not detected by Logic Pro, so no idea which market they're targeting if they are still alive!
I was about to buy the bundle…
But only if there’s vst3.

I still use the SV315 Mk2. It's good to hear that at least the most necessary updates are being made. Unfortunately, the further development of the Sonalksis plug-ins seems to have more or less stopped. However, VST3 would also be important! Cubase on M1 needs VST3, VST2 is probably no longer supported in native mode?

I have the compressor too. It is not apple silicon native. I downloaded latest version. It’s still intel.4damind wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:52 pm I still use the SV315 Mk2. I don't see an update either, version 3.20 is an old version. So basically this only means that the plugins run on the emulation under Apple Silicon but are not native M1 plugins? Confusing!

I downloaded their latest plugin manager v3.2, there's only options for AU and VST still, nothing shows in the Cubase plugins manager, and nothing in the macOS VST3 folder.simmo75 wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 8:35 pm Is it true, no VST3?

But only if there’s vst3.
Both VST2 and AU plugins are universal binaries including arm64, i.e., Apple Silicon, but Logic Pro doesn't recognise the AU variant.
Possibly a different story on Windows, not sure.
I sent an email to their support enquiring, but still no response as yet.

I'm not even sure they have anyone there who writes code anymore. Dave Gamble had written some of their code, but he's got his own company DMG, so I don't know what's happening with them. I wish them well, but I'm not holding my breath for any meaningful updates.

This is encouraging but without some reassuring announcement they are back in the game, it seems like abandonware still.
I own the EQ and comp and it's a shame to see them languish in oblivion. As mentioned, Dave's departure probably signalled the end a long time ago and they've just merely "kept the lights on" ever since.

Got a response, which reads as, out with the old and in with the new potentially, whatever that may be.
Hi Karl,
Thank you for contacting us.
Due to other commitments we don't have plans to release VST3 format any time soon but rest assured that any new plugins we release will certainly support VST3 and AUv3.
Best regards,
Sonalksis Tech Support.
