But it's mapped strangely. It takes some fiddling about to get usable results but it's worth the effort, for me anyway.

You've got put something between it whatever synth your trying to control.
Pretty easy if you're going into a pc....there are several MFX MIDI VST plugins
that can re-map the Q-Chord's MIDI out. If you want to drive an outboard hardware
synth without a pc you need to put a hardware MIDI event processor between the Q
and the synth, I've used both a Midi Solutions MIDI Event Processor and a Yamaha
MEP-4 to good effect.

Yeah, I find the instrument/manufacturer super inspiring. I'm not even shocked by the price TBH, it's a pretty amazing piece of work and they only make so many.

That old thread seems to culminate with this:

D'oh...another three years later, I just picked up another Qchord, and finally realised that all you have to do is use channels 14,15 and 16 (or use Omni and filter out 10, to get rid of the auto-rhythm), and set the pitchbend on the VST instrument to 12 in both directions. Problem solved.

I wonder if that’s it it a nutshell? I’ve always kind of had an eye on these things.

If there’s not already a virtual MIDI controller app based on this autoharp/chord-organ hybrid layout available for iOS and Android then someone needs to jump on it! It seems like it would work great on a tablet, as good or better than an original I bet. Looks fun.

Oh yeah! I remember that thread! That discussion helped me get on the right
track with the Q. Bidule for sure! And Piz's stuff is also real hady for this and
other MIDI challenges. I haven't much messed with my Q in a few years...mostly
been focusing on guitar related stuff. I think perhaps it's time to blow of the digital
dust and revisit it. Thanks for the reminder!

I just borrowed one. It sort of works like that. You have to use separate instruments for each channel and the notes tweak out when you change chords, which doesn't happen when using the internal sounds.

I’ve never even actually seen one of these things but it just looks like it would be a fun way to lay down some quick backing tracks — it would be cool if the chord keys could trigger some auto-accompaniment vamp patterns with one voice and then the strum part set to run up and down various preset arpeggio patterns with a different voice.

I think certain voice pairings suggest themselves… a Rootsy combo would be pump reed organ or accordion and zither/autoharp, more Rockin’ would be B3 and e-piano, etc

Please update this thread if you run across the best midi setup for this controller!

It does that. The accompaniments are all the typical home keyboard fare. You use them by assigning instruments to channels 9 (bass), 10 (rhythm), and I think another for keys.
