Hi there,

I would like to play with the following kind of bass sound in the highest quality. How to create this sound? Which synth is best suited for this sound?

Sounds like the famous "Lately Bass" from the Yamaha TX81Z, it's an FM bass sound.
If you by chance have Steinberg Halion 7, it comes with the original patch.

In Halion 7 the preset is called "Lately". It comes close, but it sounds more distorted and not as smooth as the sound I'm searching for.

There's also a free Yamaha TX81Z VST plugin clone: "SONICBITS Exact Lite" that got this preset called "Late Bass" that sounds like the Halion 7 preset "Lately" but again not as smooth as the searched sound. https://www.sonicbits.com/exakt-lite.html

But maybe it's the "Lately Bass" and it needs post-processing (Filter, Reverb or Delay etc.) to sound like the above sound clip.

Meanwhile, I found out that there's also a Yamaha DX 7 preset named "Solid Bass" that comes close:

FYI, Halion 7 has both "Lately" and the original "TX81Z - C15 LatelyBass".
To see the latter, you'll need to switch its MediaBay browser to "All presets".

Halion 7 has post processing effects on both patches, maybe you'll need to tweak them a little bit.

Don't know Halion 7 very well. The MediaBay browser isn't very intuitive to use to me. I found two "Lately" presets. The first one in the "HS-Factory" library is named "FM Lately" and another one in the "Anima" library is named "Lately". Clicking on the latter opens the Anima module, and in there the preset is named "DX Solid Bass".

You probably mean these two presets? Can't find any a preset named "TX81Z - C15 LatelyBass".

I couldn't find the TX81Z presets because FM Lab wasn't installed. Now I found the "TX81Z - C15 LatelyBass" preset, and it sounds much cleaner and smoother (less distorted) than the other presets I tried before. I think that's the sound I was searching for.

Solid Bass on a DX100 is a little better sounding than Lately Bass on a TX81Z. Legowelt released a free sample set that has it, although it's just one note and there's a click in the sample that you'll want to edit out:

Thanks for hinting the DX100 "Solid Bass" preset. I tried it, but for this case it doesn't come as close as the HaLion "TX81Z - C15 LatelyBass" preset with slight pitch envelope modification of some notes in a sequencer.

What is this kind of bass sound called - best synth to make it?
