The partnership brings together two global iconic music mixing console brands under the Audiotonix technology group.

Nigel Beaumont, Solid State Logic MD, comments, “Having been on our own growth journey these past five years since the investment from Audiotonix, the announcement today is a proud moment for all our staff as we now welcome the Harrison team to our SSL family. It’s been clear from the outset that Gary (Thielman - President) and his colleagues have a passion for console design and their aspirations align with our own.

Enrique Perez, Solid State Logic CTO, continues, “There is also a strong synergy with their software solutions that align well with our own plug-in business. Like SSL, Harrison has utilised their console heritage and know-how to create a range of plug-ins and the MIXBUS DAW, plus they have developed audio processing in the cloud. This all sits well in terms of knowledge share and resourcing for the future as we align our hardware products and software solutions.”

So will Mixbus start requiring iLok?
If so, RIP Harrison.

It will certainly be interesting how things change considering Mixbus is largely based off of open source.

I left Mixbus and have older licenses requiring upgrade for the new version. I only revisited it this year to excise some old projects from it. And, since the Mixbus dev people are on forums and seem to not have any bones about being snarky to users... I'll save them a post for the question of what I use instead. Its Logic and Softube Console 1 (The SSL XL9000 being my fav strip).

Basically, I should have demoed Mixbus more before spending the no-brainer cost of $25 for it alnost 10 years ago; that joke is on me and I can own that mistake. If I had to leave Logic immediately, I would probably pick up Reaper, Studio1, or Digital Performer. If I had to leave Console1 behind tomorrow, I would heavily consider the SSL controller. That is not brand loyalty; its merely wanting to make the process of music labor easier; whether its Console 1, Liquid Mix, or the UC1.

Mixbus were the opposite of that and not because they didn't have a controller. Mixbus as a DAW was a chore to use and didn't make any of my work easier. If SSL makes Mixbus better, it would easily be worth the price of ilok; a physical one even! I would even pay for a brand new license for SSL Mixbus.

And lets not bring up the recent 32C channel strip debacle. I would sell my Mixbus license if I could.

I've never had such issues with Harrison as the previous poster has. $19 per version has been fine and has been solid.
And iLok is never worth the price IMO.
Worst customer experience I've ever had with their "support". It's like Wusik, only multiplied. I wonder if they purposely seek out sociopaths to employ to keep their MO as their base line...

Absolute death to the software if they do implement it.

What I am most hopeful for is that the new Mixbus will have a lifelike graphical representation of exactly what it would look like if you took an SSL console channel strip, tore a Harrison channel strip out with a crowbar and then messily DIY screwed the SSL strip in its place. I would also like the pile of torn out Harrison channel strips to have their own view, similar to a mixer view, but in this case a pile of useless junk view. That way anytime I'm mixing I will be able to not just think, but know, that it could indeed be worse. I could be mixing on... *hits key command for Useless Junk View* then cackle to myself like a comic book villain. I may need to purchase an unnecessarily high-backed chair, a fireplace and a strokable hairless cat to really bring the whole scenario together.

Gebus, I hate modern corporate speak. "Our growth journey", "proud moment", "strong synergy", "passion", "knowledge share". It all sounds so caring, noble, and friendly. Almost as if it weren't financially motivated. Makes me want to gag.

So when they say acquisition do they mean they bought the company? Does this mean Mixbus will be a Pro Tools situation? I.E. All SSL stuff will come with Mixbus) Will Mixbus turn subscription? Stay tuned

Normal reimagined.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Don't forget synergy. I hear that a lot.

I always ask myself "Would I do it?" and the answer is almost always "yes". If somebody offered to purchase my company for millions dollars and I was suddenly set for life (and could still continue operating my business) I'd do it in a heart beat.

However, I would probably have a hard time not calling a spade a spade. I'd probably say "They offered me a bunch of money so I said yes". :hihi:
