I demo’d the Strymon plugin , you get 7 days via an Ilok registration. I’m impressed. The shimmer is a touch overcooked in the presets but can be dialed back. I really like the bloom algorithm and don’t have anything in my plugin collection that quite reached for that sound. The algorithms are all distinctive. I can’t justify 200USD given what I have available now but would consider it if wasn’t already well equipped. This is good stuff!

There used to be a time when companies offered competitive cross grades at a reduced price if you could show proof of ownership of another qualifying plugin. Given the overlap in my plugin folder that kind of incentive might get me to open my wallet yet again.

Heh, these guys are seriuosly trying to get me to buy the HW again, just because it comes in black.
Literally, the more you spend with them the happier they will be.

WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Dec 25, 2022 6:45 pm Strymon only had the hardware for years, but I think IK released the X pedals as software inside Amplitube before the hardware existed. Korg are doing a halfway house thing where they sell plugin versions of their hardware instruments like the Wavestate for $149, but it’s only $49 if you own the hardware.
not sure eventide offer a reduction for hardware owners?

not that im saying anyone should, just adding to a comment. (just in case anyone is just looking for an xmas argument :P )
in december of 2020 when they announced the H9 core version will be discontinued they had a promotion where any purchase of an h9 max (or upgrade to max) included the H9 plugins bundle for free. I think that was great, but it was a once in a lifetime thing.
That gift was for anyone that had a registered H9 Max in their account.
I bought a second hand one during the period and was eligible.

Has anyone from the EU tried/succeeded in ordering straight from Strymon anyway? I wouldn't mind skipping the extra 19% :hihi:
I was thinking the same- has PayPal check out so I tried it (with a US address in postal address) and it worked. I now own Big Sky!

Love it ....there is a reason why this pedal is iconic, it really does have a 'smile on your face' sound. Granted, I am a guitarist (and own Strymon pedals) so have bias, but it works/sounds better for me 'on guitar' than other reverbs I have...maybe as it was always really designed for guitar and the synth world just adopted it!

interesting. did you used a VPN for checkout? Also wondering if it's really the same Price for US and Canadian $$? CA $199 would only be like 135 EUR. That would be a nice price tag.

I was half expecting a few of the other pedals to have gone 'VST' by now, I wonder if anything is being developed.

It's never gone on sale and didn't have any 'intro' price. How it sounds is really up to you as can demo it for a week using iLok Cloud (no physical dongle required). It has a particular sound and vibe that Strymon is known for, so that's its 'thing' and it does it exactly like the hardware. I quite like that sound, but it also doesn't mean there aren't great if not superb alternatives (all of them mentioned previously in this thread). Just have to demo it and decide for yourself if that very recognizable sound is what you're chasing and if the price is worth it to you given what else is out there.

It is certainly superb on guitar (my main use), as a synth plug in you can probably get away with others, but it is one of the best either way.

I don’t think there’s a single plugin that does everything that it does, but there are lots of plugins that cover parts of it. The thing is, they still don’t sound like the Big Sky, and you’ll probably end up spending a lot more going that route. I’m actually going to pick it up today. Happy birthday to me!

Thanks. I’ve got a bunch of others too, but I always GASed for the Big Sky pedal, but couldn’t justify it in my setup. Now that it’s in software, there’s really no excuse to add it to my arsenal.
