Factorsynth 3

Post

Anemond has released version 3 of Factorsynth, a tool for sound deconstruction. Previously only available as a Max For Live device, the new version 3 is a complete rewrite that brings the Factorsynth technology to all VST3/AUv2 compatible DAWs. For the first time, it also runs as a standalone application.

Factorsynth is an audio effect that decomposes (“factorizes”) audio samples into a set of spectral and temporal elements using a machine learning algorithm. These elements can be then manipulated, remixed and recombined in many ways to create complex textures, create rhythmic and melodic variations, randomize timbre and panning or create hybrid sounds.

When you say ‘synth’ does this mean it can also be played with midi notes as an instrument even though it is an effect?

Post

It is indeed possible to launch different components via MIDI notes (using "sampler mode"). But the "synth" suffix rather comes from the fact that the whole processing path of factorization/manipulation follows the analysis/resynthesis pattern, such as in granular synthesis, spectral editing via spectrograms, etc..

Always been interested in the M4L version. In you estimation is more cpu friendly on the max version or VST ?
I make electronic music - DAW of choice : Live 12

Post

Most CPU consumption is due to the decomposition engine, which is the same in both M4L and VST versions (the new features in v3 are about manipulation, interface and MIDI control). So CPU consumption should be roughly the same.

Post

Can the factorised audio elements be dragged as samples into the DAW?

Post

Not directly. But they can be exported as separate audio files.

We've just released a new short intro video about Factorsynth 3, and will prepare more detailed walkthroughs and tutorials soon.
