you don't have to use all the modulation/delay/eq. you can set up filter sweeps or whatever you need to. just ignore the rest of the GUI.LFO8 wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 12:31 pm I hope u-he will offer a stripped down version of this also. A great sounding u-he filter plugin without too much fif-faf for when we want simple things.
you could always use uhbik . i think it'll get updated some time but i forget when. urs mentioned a possible timeline in a thread somewhere.

I’m biased considering I’ve owned Filterscape since it came out, so I’m super happy to see it finally get an update, the synth version is a great thing,

Nah - e.g. Yes couldn't play the whole of "Close to the Edge" in one piece, so they recorded sections and Eddie Offord spliced it all together on tape...elnn wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 8:33 pmThat’s because no one with money changes the DAW timeline paradigm. http://nfte.org/interviews/EO234.htmlYes, you would record the first section and then I'd do a little quick mix of that to two track and then I'd feed them the section that they'd just recorded into their headphones so they'd get the tempo matched up and then they'd just count it in and record the next section and then we'd just splice it together. After it was all spliced, the keyboard and guitar overdubs would smooth out the splices.
That's just one example... they often also made loops like this back in the day and other stuff that's not too different from what people do with a DAW these days.
But this whole discussion is completely and utterly pointless. People do whatever they do.
Again: why would you care? I mean: you might be curious how others work and that is a good thing - but talking others down?
Here's the thing: I met a lot of perhaps not-so-creative to maybe mediocre to absolutely brilliant musicians in my life. And it was the latter who were always very open and non-judgemental and rarely ever said a bad word about any other musician and who showed not even a hint of arrogance.
If you seek to talk others down - and especially if you do that a lot - and come across very arrogant and narrow-minded and hellishly judgemental, then I consider that a fool-proof way of telling that you are quite unhappy with your own achievements and skills. You therefor constantly seek to elevate yourself - not only in the eyes of others but especially in front of yourself - by seeking to belittle the achievements of others.
I find these discussions sooo very lame and tiring. And the worst thing I keep reading is the absurd claim that there is no (or very very little) good music being released anymore. That just isn't true at all.
You need to be very very ignorant to make that claim. If you claim that it means you have zero interest in listening to fresh music anymore - and how then would you be able to tell?
You just have no f**king idea. So why why why can't you then just keep your stupid, ignorant mouth shut for crying out loud? You are just about the last person in the world qualified to make these kind of judgements. And if you can't refrain from it then please start with yourself - and for once be honest about it.
I really want to hear some song this Jamcat dude wrote, performed and produced. But of course he'll never share anything.

you don't even need the avant garde stuff as examples.
les paul and mary ford. 1950 onwards: overdubbing, self-harmonising, delays, phasing etc.

and much later.. the first several squarepusher records were recorded to 8 track reel to reel.. fostex i think. also, autechre has done several things to cassette as the master in the very early days as have many many many other electronic musicians making everything from house to hip hop. tape was very present in the 90s in many forms.elnn wrote: Wed Apr 19, 2023 11:53 amSure, record, mix, connect, what not. i think what a lot of these people seem to not realise, its all this stuff, particularly the avant garde/academic music, that gave us a lot of the studio techniques and equipment we take for granted.
the beatles for example, took a lot of inspiration later on, from stockhausen, enough he made the cover of sgt peppers.
