If you have Izotope Neutron then you might also have Izotopes Visual Mixer plugin. The Visual Mixer plugin can be put on a master buss and and a plugin called "Relay" can be put on all of your individual tracks. Each relay plugin you put on a track acts as a node for the Visual mixer which then allows you to adjust the volume, panning & stereo width of each track using just one instance of the Visual Mixer plugin.

Also, some of you might be aware of binaural spatial positioning plugins like DearVRMusic and various freeware alternatives.

Is there a plugin that combines elements of both plugins? A binaural positioning plugin that uses nodes you can put on all your tracks and then use the main plugin as a master (of sorts) to position the tracks with the nodes where ever you want on a simulated "3D space" like the example pic below..

All from just one instance of the binaural plugin.

It would be more interesting and handy (in my opinion) than using multiple instances of the binaural plugin for every track you want to use and having to open each plugins window just to position a track (vocal or instrument etc.)
I have no idea if plugins like DearVRMusic do that already because I haven't seen such a thing mentioned anywhere. If it already does that kind of thing and I didn't know it, I would feel rather foolish for having typed out this post.

The DearVR is okay. I also like Panagement 2 but not as thorough. I still have the Sennheiser Ambeo and still use it.

Nope, but this kind of plug ins, communicating between instances, are quite heavy to the system and I think it is a thing that DAWs should look to implement on their own so it becomes more efficient.

I actually LOVE this feature of Nuetron but the issue is you can’t automate it. The magic of all those placements is them moving around during a song and without automation it’s sadly not a very useful tool.

Yes. This plugin exists. It's called Virtual Sound Stage 2, from parallax-audio.

Virtual sound stage is fantastic. Worth a try for sure. I use it more for scoring stuff but it's great at setting up a nice "live band in a room" type stereo stage. It gets nifty when all the band are synthetic. Definitely give it a demo. You can use it more like just a "visual mixer" by turning down/ off the early reflections and such so you pretty much just get pan and volume when you move sources around. It's very efficient and stable on my old system as well as my new one. I have like 70 instances in my scoring template and the cpu use from VSS is negligible.

That Looks interesting indeed. :tu:

I've seen this before but $129 for one room preset and you have to put one on every track, so I'd be interested to know the CPU hit because that's a lot of graphics.

Post

It has different rooms. Or at least enough modification of the room that it's like having multiple rooms. The cpu hit is tiny. I haven't fiddled with my setup in a while but I have around 70 instances and it's nowhere near a drain on resources. I've used it to arrange very small groups of guitars keys and drums. Also I've used it to arrange entire sections of orchestral instruments. Just demo it. It either does what you want or doesn't. It's designed for use across tons of tracks (and any source can be edited from any instance) so resources should be no issue. Also the developers are very nice and helpful.

Just rechecked, there is a whole list of rooms at the top right. They appear to have a major impact on the sound and then the dimensions of each can be modified.

The website says the $129 has one room. Another $100.00 gets you all the rooms. That's a lot of money for a Pan management tool. But, if I were scoring orchestras it would probably be essential.

Post

It does more than just panning.
It creates location specific natural placement, plus early reflections (accounting for distance and air absorption) for each instrument, as heard by a stereo mic configuration from any location within the room.

There are 14 different mic configurations, including Decca Tree, Blumlein, ORTF, GHS, EBS, NOS, and various XY and AB configurations. The mic configurations are mind-blowing on their own.

This is one of the best, deepest, plugins on the market, and one of my top plugins. I couldn't use SWAM instruments without it.

It exist, yes, and it sounds great and it even optionally communicates with a high-quality reverb of which the linked instance automatically adjust
pre-delay and other distance-related parameters. And no, it doesn't use a lot of CPU - in fact it's rather light.

The catch? The company doesn't really exist anymore - but it works and can still be purchased:

I used to use Proximity on every track for this sort of thing, but Virtual Sound Stage looks promising.

I love Proximity. Use it a lot in Windows but can't get my new MacBook to recognize it.
