We can always bring up the incredibly niche as a counter point but it is not a strong argument. It reinforces the need to have better methods to inspire in place.

I'll settle for good, reasonable even.... and with full audio bandwidth to 20kHz.Uncle E wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 2:17 pmIt’s not great. But it’s good enough that companies and studios will use it for advertisements, movies, and video games. Bye bye, music jobs.

Well, I think Logic made me interested in going through the learning curve within just a day.DrGonzo wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:20 am I don't know how many times I've tried to switch from Ableton. That damn thing drags me back every time. I tried Bitwig, Logic and Cubase, but the power of the ring ... sorry, Ableton, is too damn strong. I always go crawling back.
How long did it take you to "get" Logic?
/C
And after two or three days, I can do most of the things I want in Logic (with occasional quick Google searches), but I wouldn't say I was super comfortable doing those, because I'm still very much used to things in Ableton.
And it's been 2 weeks, and I think I'm more willing to open projects in Logic than in Ableton. However, I sometimes do wish Logic has something that Ableton has (search Plugins, better file browser, set automation values., etc). So not sure what would happen after the honeymoon passes... Maybe the UI loses its attraction, or I misses some features in Ableton too much, I will crawl back to Ableton, too.

ie i use samplitude, mainly for it's ease of use with audio recording.
but if im doing itb composition ill use either orion for it's ease of use with midi, or bidule if im looking for a more modular workflow.
using the tools to their strengths, isn't the same as daw hopping imo, there's a difference between having two or three that do things well the others don't, and buying every host and switching because the one you are currently using isn't inspiring you.
this sounds more like what you and many others are doing rather than hopping. you're looking to do something different.

Vurt nails it here. It's almost impossible to use an MPC Studio, or any of the hardware versions and not write in a different way. Much the same way you're not going to approach piano keyboard interfaces the same way you approach string instruments, the same way you approach a modular setup.vurt wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 4:23 pmre features, depends which particular features.hhuang9611 wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 3:57 pmWell, I think Logic made me interested in going through the learning curve within just a day.DrGonzo wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 9:20 am I don't know how many times I've tried to switch from Ableton. You have to ignore completely any differences in interface and composing methods a sequencer encourages in the writing process to think this, and if you're 100% the kind of person who writes with pen and staff paper that's mostly going to be true, but if that person were to incorporate Live/Bitwigs clip launcher session grid style writing into their songwriting workflow it would change the way they write and maybe the outcome. IMO DAWs are tools for song creation, and it can be argued that the non linear ones are more like sequencer instruments. They can inspire you to write in a different way, or their pattern assembling interface pushes you in new directions.
Caveat here, ignoring the embedded instruments in a traditional DAW like Cubase, DP, Logic, Reaper, Pro Tools, Samplitude, I would say they all offer the same basic linear timeline approach, but if you're using the less traditional linear timeline pattern assembling tools in Bitwig, MPC, Live, ReNoise, FL Studio, or the low level stuff like PD, Max/MSP etc. then IMO they do and can affect how you write.
Another elephant, in reverse the limitations of the DAW will drag you in different directions, the lack of easy SysEx in some DAWs makes me less likely to write with hardware than with VI's, simpler pattern based composition is much more fun to write in Bitwig or Live, same with audio mangling, lots of tools there for that, and orchestral composition is easier to write in DP, Cubase Logic etc. Sometimes it's the actual tools the DAW offers that inspires.

Is or is not listening to car engines a niche way to be inspired to make a song ?
My point is switching DAW is a niche way to be inspired compared to other more common ways of being inspired.
I added the caveat that everyone is allowed to have their own way of becoming inspired even if it is odd, reasonable.. no ?
Standing at the roadside waiting for music to appear or changing your DAW are by reasonable standards not sensible approaches to becoming inspired for 99.9pct of musicians. Unless of course you are making pedantic points where niche approaches are being pushed under the guise of being somehow interesting.
I suggest there are many other ways to become inspired that work for more musicians more of the time.
What precisely is the problem with that reasoning ?

you keep using niche, because you are focusing on the specific rather than the general.Synthman2000 wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 6:01 pm Unless of course you are making pedantic points where niche approaches are being pushed under the guise of being somehow interesting.
all im saying is "different musicians are inspired by different things". youre the one stuck on the road.
but lets stay there yes, fun, fun, fun on the autobahn

Are you confusing his statement with his example or something?
Need reminded? It was 'all kinds of things inspire creativity...'
