You can use them at a fairly slow rate. I just did something similar to vurt by feeding eight outputs from my tiptop/buchla quad function generator into the neutron filter and some analog delay. I set the attack time fairly slow to get low deep sounds. Two the input are the trigger outputs mixed. I fell asleep to my DIY ASMR.SHall1000 wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 8:52 am Ok thanks. In my head envelopes are slow moving but I guess you can trigger them at a high rate to create audio.
Ooh, I like This Modular Rack...

Kindly tell us your experiences with Hector.elxsound wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 5:01 pm ...after finding a good deal on Hector. I caved… I’m adding Hector, and will likely sell off Beebo.
I m holding off for the moment and will test a few things out in VCV/Softube before taking the plunge into hardware. ( E.g. rings is often portrayed as this gem of a module but i m more of a TB-303 and MS-20 kinda guy so I might get bored faster than i think. )

I’m mostly worried about not having the knobs available like on Beebo.
One of the more challenging things I’ve come across with eurorack and guitar pedals are those “revered” modules/pedals.
There’s many I purposely ignored only to like them later like Rings, Marbles, Beads… basically many of the MI stuff and then there’s some I bought like (pedals) Microcosm and Blooper that I didn’t care for, or didn’t like the workflow.
I’m still learning what I like as I discover what’s possible and that’s making all this more expensive… but I am loving the journey (so long as I ignore the total cost).

psst, spread your full rack, on modular grid, to 4 separate racks.
then you never see "total cost (without hundreds on cables)"

Another trick I learned is that many of the alternate faceplates on modulargrid don’t include the full cost of the module.vurt wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 2:28 pm psst, spread your full rack, on modular grid, to 4 separate racks.

I just turn off the price estimates on ModularGrid. A lot of them don't match what I paid anyway.

dunno if i could be that risky, i may cheat the numbers, but they're still high enough to keep me in check

In reality the numbers are even underestimated. The actual price is pretty much always higher. And in the EU we are priviledged to always pay more for the same thing.vurt wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 4:40 pm dunno if i could be that risky, i may cheat the numbers, but they're still high enough to keep me in check![]()
Hector in the US: 600 dollar
Hector in the EU: 618 euro = 680 dollar .

well, if it helps, my lego has cost slightly more than my modular over the years
but then i also made some good profits on minifigures back in the day.
was lucky enough to get a few boxes of the first few series, at sale prices of 50p per figure, four or five years later, shifting them for 15 quid each, which wasn't as high as they went

Used is nice… check Modwiggler for sales. You need 100 posts in order to post in sales thread but you can still PM. I got Hector for $459. Just arrived today too!Stefken wrote: Wed Apr 26, 2023 4:48 pmIn reality the numbers are even underestimated. The actual price is pretty much always higher. I only used four EGs, I just had eight inputs on my mixer so I did some processing on a couple of the outputs and also mixed in two of the trigger outs. Main point of the post is that even fairly slow changes in voltage can create interesting sounds, especially when driving a filter.

I think it depends, really. Living in the US I've sometimes bought some modules from Schneidersladen or Thomann or Juno because even with shipping it's less than what US shops ask for. I even bought a couple of US-made modules from Juno for that reason.
But I have bought or traded for a fair number of used modules, got a few through beta testing, and modest store discounts on some. OTOH I've probably made up for that with all the shipping I've paid for due to all those trades...
And several small orders for knobs/accessories from Thonk too.

im just jealous of the tip top buchlas
indeed, as its all just voltage really, some is just faster than others, its worth seeing what the hell happens???
one thing you may be able to explain, or someone...
when i take an actual oscillator, and drop the pitch, below normal ranges, i get the broken clicks and pops, even from a basic triangle wave, or saw.
however, if i take an lfo from audio rate down, i dont get all that lovely futzy noise?
