You're still wrong. Compare BA-1 to JP6K, for example. Both are very simple synths but their sound is completely different and each has their own strengths. It's always made much more sense to me to have half-a-dozen simple synths like these, where I can get the result I am after quickly and easily and I know which one will work in any given situation, rather than wading through endless features trying to coax this or that sound out of a complex synth. I still use Thorn, ANA-2 and Spire here and there but most of the grunt work is taken care of by these simpler instruments, various SEM emulations probably being my favourites.
You said that adding more features will make it the same as every synth (less unique), I said that having less features makes it less unique, and you replied who cares if its not unique? That negates your own point about adding more features making it the same as every synth.
No, it doesn't. It can be the most unique thing ever created but I don't have to care about that aspect of it (and I don't).
Not everything needs to be unique, but I get bored of using only the same subtractive sounds that people have used for decades.
I don't think about it that way, I do whatever the song I am working on needs. It's the songs that are important, the instruments are just tools.
I disagree that everything worth doing has already been done. And lots of synths, even the ones that can make complex sounds, are still pretty easy to use imo
They are all easy, just some require you to do a lot more work than others to get where you want to go.
Its also just about having enough features to make it a great VA synth, and adding unison would make it shine imo, its always a good feature for VAs and this could make really lush pads as BA-1 already sounds great
Ordinarily, I wouldn't even look at a synth without Unison but this thing sounds absolutely massive without it. It's amazing how big and thick and luscious it can sound with just two oscillators, so I am happy to overlook its lack of Unison. Ditto for the lack of different filter modes. I use notch filters fairly regularly and, occasionally, a nice high-pass filter can be useful. But, again, this thing has enough to offer without that stuff so I'm happy with it the way it is. I have other synths with Unison and multi-mode filters, like TRK-01 Bass, so I'm covered.

I started off saying I want more features, then I've been responding to other people's arguments that don't make sense, such as more features making a synth less unique, which is not my argument, I'm saying the opposite.
Holy crap.... so your particular ideas on improving a simple but beloved VA are good, but others are bad! Also, it will make it more complex, but not too complex, just the right amount, or some other magical amount you personally are aware of, but others have wrong.

I'm done, have fun responding with another magical zinger that makes your obvious narcissism obvious to anyone but you apparently.

damn this thread went completely to shit since last time i was here.

gave it a go, i still can't vibe with the interface. might be good for touch, but for mouse it just confuses me. Same problem as with D16's LuSH101.

Sounds decent, battery health is a neat gimmick, but 49$ for this is in my humble opinion pushing it. It sounds fine, but nothing special.

Minimoog and Odyssey are somewhat similar in features (somewhat),
Yeah right …somewhat
Minimoog:
-Osc 3 —>osc 1 Fm
-Osc 3 —> filter FM
That’s it
Oddisey :
-osc fm
-Filter fm
- pulse width mod
- Osc sync
-ring mod
-s/h mixer
Somewhat. :D
Nah, i agree. That was a bad example. Tired brain.
Bones made a much better example!

why does everyone in every thread want to prove that they know better and are above all else?

Jesus christ, you're making shit up now. At no point did I put down any other idea for other added features, that is what everyone else is doing ffs. I suggested some added features which were met with backlash by people who prefer simplicity.

Everyone has their own preference for simplicity vs complexity, and no one is wrong. I keep saying that both have their merits, and I like both. You're saying that I'm calling other features or preferences wrong, but you're literally just making that up. If you're going to bother replying to a post, actually read what you're replying to first. You have nothing logical to say, so you're resorting to making shit up and personal insults because I would like more features added to a synth. Get f**ked you troll

There can only be one. OnePingOnly.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I always get stunned when i have too many options. This "simple" synth, have already been the base of 50 new presets made. Again, for me, that's plenty.
That's fair enough, a pro version would be ideal as people could still use BA-1. I would probably still sometimes use the non-pro version too when I want to make something quick.

I get that different synths have their own colours and I do like knowing I can load up a specific synth for a certain tone. Those synths deserve their place alongside more do-it-all synths.

Yep, but if the song isn't supposed to sound retro, then a synth like BA-1 might not suit it. With more features and oscillators it can move a bit away from the classic retro sounds

It does sound fat without unison, and I also overlooked this as I bought it without unison, and am using it, but I just think it would sound even fatter with unison, so I'm hoping for it.

This little synth has a nice core sound but is too mindlessly simple to hold my attention for more than 15 minutes.

So that core sound in a more feature rich synth made for experienced users would be welcome here and this current version would still be there for beginners who are enthralled by a couple of Oscs, a single Filter and a single ENV. I got bored with those type of synths by the late 1980's.

Don't bother trying to convince people who are more concerned with "quick and easy" than they are anything else. Let them make sounds that grew old in 1982 when this toy of a synth was released if that still inspires them in some way.

No, I'm not interested in debating the issue with anyone, use whatever works best for you.

But don't ever....ever....think that what works best for you works best for everyone. Your opinion is not "advice".

I agree, I 'd like more features, but everyone has a different workflow and people can make music however they want

I've grown pretty tired of analog retro emulations, but this sounds pretty good. Its overall sound is gritty and lofi, but great quality. The built in battery tape-style drift is a nice touch. My favorite patch so far is eighties lead - Boxsta. Definitely a good buy for the intro price.
