Latency?

Post

It has two zero latency modes (analog tight and analog smooth).

What else? Resizeable up to 200 %, has switchable tool tips (which is nice when exploring without manual), and the GUI is typical Zynaptiq style (i.e. modern/reduced). Lots of pages and clickable object that open windows and menus, but it works for me. The signal flow is nicely displayed in an overview window, and from there, you can dig deeper.

O.k., have to sleep now. Hope this helped a bit!

You've been very helpful tq. Thanks!

The only thing that gives me pause is the one activation thing, which I knew about already. I'm not buying any more one-activation plugins. As a rule. But I will ask Zynaptiq if they will offer a second activation. If they're willing to accommodate the request, then I'd happily purchase. Otherwise, I'll have to pass.

Only 1 ilok activation sucks. Its supposed to be 3. I believe SSL was doing the same thing to its customers but they reformed and added more.

I suggested they increase the number. Hoping they do. I have two iloks, one for my Mac, and one for my PC. I’m not buying any more one activation plug-ins from anybody. No matter how long I waited.

the question is, how much latency do the other modes have ?

2. is there a mode where we can freely rearrange the bands, freely patchable, modulation source vs. target ? (like the Doepfer or Clavia modular vocoder allows)

3. in case point 2. is a No: is there a mode more prone for percussion vs. synth works ?

only one activation ?...speechless

Thanks for taking the time to report your impressions. This is a plug I will absolutely get within the days. Just one question how about latency? Anything particular you noticed?

i have a latency reported of 2048 samples, = 42mS */ edit: * "in my case"

Could it be, that its FFT based, and just would use a setting of 2048 filterbands ?
....my first thought at least.

no freely (cross-) patchable mode, from what i gather.

i used it on a synth vs. synth patch, and allready had very great results.
i like the soundengine for such uses so far.
....totally miss a free cross-patchable mode

I get 1024 samples here for everything except the two live modes, which report 0. There is also an info window that reports the latency within the plugin, but I also checked with AU lab, and there it also says 1024. That is at 44.1k in stereo.

The Vocoder section has 10 EQ bands - not sure whether there is a way to change that, as there seems to be no way to go deeper into the algorithms themselves (you can just switch them). However, I feel that the balance between depth and fun is good here, and the algorithms vary greatly - some do have outstanding intelligibility, others are grainy-robotic.

Then there was the question whether you can switch modulator and carrier - yes, you can. You can change the signal flow at certain points, and you can either have the aux synth / the internal synth as the carrier or the main input (and the other as the modulator). However, it's not fully modular - but again, I feel that this is deep enough, as it offers so much variation in sound between algorithms.

O.k., have to go back to my daytime job... maybe somebody else needs to do more exploring then. :-)

Early Bird Price € 165,68 with taxes.

I’ll pass.

I already have several vocoders, e.g.
Waldorf, Live11, iZotope.

Sorry, forgot one thing: In AU lab, the reported processor load is lower. More like 20-50% on one core of my M1 Mini (with the live modes and the 'classic' modes being on the low side, and the LPC ones being on the high side). The CPU use seems to spike a bit when switching algorithms, but that didn't produce any nasty audio spikes here. Interesting: In the algorithm selector window, it seems to immediately switch algorithms when you hoover of the various options, so you can 'preview' their sound there (without double clicking and 'selecting' the option).

As for the price/use ratio: Yeah, it's not cheap compared to today's market, but it's certainly pretty unique in terms of sound and options. In many ways, this is typical Zynaptiq stuff - pushing the boundaries with some new, fancy ways to process audio, but it comes at a price (both economically and CPU wise).

I need this shizzle in my heim komputer. Any word on discounts?

Zynaptiq should absolutely adapt loyal customer policy - e.g. 1-2 previously owned Z products -10 %, 3-4 -20. % etc.

With their rigid pricing, they can vocode up their a***s.

'That guy' did mention something about upgrades in one of the vids, but I forget where. And they were such poor quality I can't be bothered to scroll through them.

Regarding the one activation thing, I reached out to Zynaptiq, and they basically explained:

1. An additional license [more on this in the next bullets] will be issued upon request [one activation by default]
2. That additional license is actually only good for a year from activation, but...
3. So you don't ever have down time, they'll actually issue you two expiring licenses [first add'l license expires, just activate #2]
4. You just contact them when you need a refresh, which they'll provide
5. The main activation doesn't require any jumping through hoops

So it's a little convoluted, and I suggested they reconsider and just issue 2 out the outset, but they're at least better than Izotope in this regard.
