travel is inspiring and can cost a lot more than 400 money tokens.

but you haven't met every artist out there, there may be many.Synthman2000 wrote: Fri Apr 28, 2023 10:35 am I have heard 1 artist say when they switched DAW it opened up a new way of working.

Bidule maybe, but many DAWs have much shared ground.whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Apr 27, 2023 10:58 am I do consider Live to function and operate substantively differently from ProTools or Bidule, though.
Moving DAW also may/may not make any difference in changing up workflow, people may still take the same basic approach. I actually love seeing how other people work within a DAW or when creating, as I know even within a single DAW there are many many ways to work and that I just don't know half of them.
With the DAWs you listed, what type of material impact do you think each would have on your music, workflow or inspirationl?

Live does feel different because it was designed for performance first and production later, Protool was designed for mixing, mastering first. Logic was for full production and still is. Cubase was similar, designed first to sequence/composing and later for audio mixing, etc.
Live had a different paradigm from the iteration, now it shares a lot of course and most other DAW have a clip launcher now.

yes, but if they were 100% identical and interchangeable people wouldnt have favourites._leras wrote: Fri Apr 28, 2023 12:54 pmBidule maybe, but many DAWs have much shared ground.whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Apr 27, 2023 10:58 am I do consider Live to function and operate substantively differently from ProTools or Bidule, though.
Yes, that falls under 'it doesnt mean its inspiring for everyone', so we already got that.Moving DAW also may/may not make any difference in changing up workflow, people may still take the same basic approach
well with a linear DAW like ProTools, I'd be inclined to work more linearly, whilst with a loop-centric DAW like Live, I'd be inclined to work more with looped sounds, and with a timeline-less modular DAW like Bidule, I'd be inclined to work without a timeline in a more modular wayWith the DAWs you listed, what type of material impact do you think each would have on your music, workflow or inspirationl?

But none of those are inspiring, just different ways of getting what's in your head out more effortlessly, depending on what's in your head.whyterabbyt wrote: Fri Apr 28, 2023 4:54 pmyes, but if they were interchangeable people wouldnt have favourites._leras wrote: Fri Apr 28, 2023 12:54 pmBidule maybe, but many DAWs have much shared ground.whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Apr 27, 2023 10:58 am I do consider Live to function and operate substantively differently from ProTools or Bidule, though.

Switching DAWs may force you to think differently about your workflow, but won't necessarily inspire you. I've been down that path and I always end up at the same destination, as it were. In general, I find the tools are not inspiring--they are just a means to an end. Inspiration comes from the world around me interacting with the world within me.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

I switched to Studio One after 13 years of being with Reason, not because it was inspiring, but because it was lagging behind the competition.

We know.
Didnt we already address this?
I mean its not as if the OP actually askedThe reading of 'x is inspiring' as 'Im saying x is inspiring all the time for everyone every time' is silly to the point of deliberate misinterpretation.
or anything like that. No, it was an irrevocable assertion of universal law, applicable to everyone everywhere at all times, wasnt it.Just curious if anyone has had similar experience

i know a girl, she paints, abstracts mostly, though can do portraits for money if she needs to.
she, gets up very early in the morning, what id call bedtime tbh, about 3/4 am, to go and sit by the canal, and watch people fishing for a few hours, before heading in to her studio to paint.

Anyway, I haven't read every word of every post in this thread (or any thread I follow, for obvious reasons) so if I'm not exactly trailblazing here, my apologies.

I think you probably have a bit more control over your process than that
I've mainly switched from Cubase to Bitwig. I like Bitwig because it has great workflow, I find it quick and it stays out of the way. I'm not sure the music turns out substantially different
Most electronic music has an element of looping. Even a non looping daw can copy paste loops or music.
Anyway I think changing things to take a different approach can add some freshness and inspiration. For me I think the actual daw is not at the top of the list, but any change can be good.

Perhaps consider the low-tech...Simple is faster. Doesn't mean it has to sound crappy. I started a tune in AXS Tracker a few days ago which is NOT my main DAW by a longshot but FUN to work in with it's limitations a freeware Tracker from 2001 works well in XP-Windows 10...
Just uploaded this track done in it, minutes ago...Other than a fast fade-out & conversion to MP3 I have not done anything else to it-
https://soundcloud.com/waxing-and-waning/pulp-friction
I am SURE there will be a few here that will take a giant shit on this so I have inserted a 'strong verbal suggestion' in the tune just for those of such ilk. They seem to breed only here at KVR, never have problems anywhere else.

Anyways easy trackers are a great way to 'sketch out' ideas...In fact the track name equals-
PULP - A mish-mash of Tracker sketches FRICTION - Not everybody gonna like it...
