Changes in Bitwig Studio 5, Beta 6 [released 28 April 2023]

NEW FEATURES

Browser: Now has a Sort Order setting, available by right-clicking anywhere
Options include:
by Kind / Name (default) - sorting by relevant file type, then alphabetically within each group
by Name - sorting as a flat alphabetical list
by Date - sorting by last modified date
Each browsing session remembers the sort option
Use current selections option to set defaults also remembers the sort option for that context
Controller script added for ASM Hydrasynth Keyboard:
Support for poly aftertouch
Knobs can be used in NRPN mode with 2-directional communication and be enabled/disabled (if you don't want remotes to modify your synth)

IMPROVEMENTS

Curve editor window: Now has a button to go straight to the Curve Browser, to the left of the Save button
Assorted Browser improvements:
Context menus have been reorganized, now including submenu for Browser Settings, with relevant show/hide options, Rescan options, and (when appropriate) option to Use current selections for the current context
When a preset is selected, its package is shown in the results area:
Clicking on the package icon or name sets the Location filter to point to the package
Clicking the arrow on the right makes the current Source that package
Added an option for Suggest available Packages, so that the download suggestions can be disabled (from the Browser Settings submenu when you right-click anywhere)
Improved the Suggest available Packages suggestions, making them more focused on your search
Right-clicking within the Locations filter now has an option to Show all Locations, toggling whether locations with zero hits should be shown
You can now add Sound Content, Music and Plug-in locations by right-clicking on those folders within the browser's Location filter
Modulators and Grid modules now have both panels for showing Modulation Routings by Source and Modulation Routings by Destination
Akai APC40mk2 controller script: Updated to take advantage of project- and track-level remote controls

FIXES

Browser fixes:
Now shows all search results (instead of truncating the list)
Clicking a device's folder to Replace content will no longer change your device settings until you select a preset
Sample preview playback was starting immediately after loading some projects [32189]
[→] key to start/stop the preview player in the file results list now works again
When a smart collection is the current source, right-clicking anywhere in the browser offers an Edit Smart Collection option, which restores its original selection so you can make adjustments and then save again [32289]

Did anybody notice that the old browser preview desease is back: Previewing without the initial transient...
4.4.10 plays them correctly but beta 5 and 6 not...
Is that just me or does anybody else has got it?? Very noticeable when previewing Kicks with sharp transients...

Didn´t we have this topic some time ago with V2 or V3??

New to V5... so been there since the first beta. I'm just now trying it. You can draw a curve, so one example I was just doing is I drew a curve that was only not zero where a few bass notes of a clip were playing. So I could adjust the sound just for those bass notes.

What block size do you use on your projects. People using 1024 or 2048 are having that issue. Doesn't seem to be a problem with smaller sizes. Like I run my projects at 128-256 and transients are fine.

Here's a 1 bar midi clip with a sustained 5 note chord. A couple of the notes alternate with each loop using operators. Then a Note FX Layer with 3 Arps. Using Curves MSEG's to modulate the Arps Gates over multiple bars. It's much easier to create changing arp patterns with the MSEG's.

I think the thoughts on the new browser are positive but visually I just really dislike it.. doesn't work for me. Went back to version 4 to check browser and it seems so well laid out and easy on the eye.. the pop up box with text rather than little icons everywhere.. I think even the new icons are ugly style wise.

They're the only thing that bothers me about the new browser. I can see what they were going for (make them look more like physical objects rather than just symbols), but they lack the visual clarity needed for their purpose.

I agree that the splash screen doesn't look nice, either. On a single-resolution screen the small writing looks pixelated and is close to unreadable. Wonder if I should report that as a bug.

You are right... it´s block size related...
Nonetheless it works fine on 4.4.10 with 1024 samples...it´s just V5 got this problem again...

Has anybody witnessed the weird macro knob behavior with project/track/other container macro knobs modulating midi cc knobs in the beta?
When I change a macro knob position to bind to a midi cc knob it flickers on the midi cc knob all the time and sends continuous midi cc to my synth...
It does not happen with the macro knob in the midi cc device itself. But if I map a macro knob to the macro knob again, the same behavior occurs:
