How To Tell Cubase To Save To External Drive?

So... my system hard drive is full and every time I go to record any audio in Cubase it says, "Audio recording aborted, disk full".

Cool. I saved the project to an external drive and reopened the project through the external drive. That drive has plenty of space on it.

But, when I go to record, I get the same message. Why does Cubase INSIST on saving my audio recordings to my computer and not the external, where the project now resides?

How do I change this. I'm stuck and can't go on with anything until I fix this.

2 different things:
- Project location: the folder with all files belonging to a project - like recordings
- The main project file (.cpr): can be saved somewhere outside the project location (that's not ideal)

When you start a new project (file>new), in the next screen, at the bottom, is it set to "default" or "prompt"?

My guess: it's set to "default", and that default is your system drive.
Solution:
- For new projects: change the default to the external drive or select "prompt..."
- For existing projects: File>Backup Project > choose a location on your ext. drive > close the project > open it again from its new location (and delete it from the old, if you want)

You can also right click an audio track and "Set audio record path" to anywhere you want.

... or reclaim some space on your system drive. Go through some folders and delete obsolete shit.

Wot Bert sez. Have to suspect you've got loads of old projects still on your main drive, which is why it's full. As you obvs have an external drive, move your old projects there instead of trying to dick about saving a current project there. Buying a new car cos your ashtray is full makes no sense...empty the ashtray instead.
