What is everyone using these days for their DAW computer keyboard and mouse?

Just had my Logitech K800 key/mouse combo (which I found out I purchased in Spring 2011) just die on me (stuck/broken keys) and it was time to get something new.

After spending the last week testing a crap load of new fangled devices via Amazon (from MX Keys to Keychron etc) - I found out that exactly none of these modern keyboards (both mechnical and non-mech) devices feel right to me so I fell back to an old MS Desktop 600 combo I had laying around.

Not exactly sure if this MS combo is the way forward - but I wanted to know if any others out there swear by a specific keyboard/mouse combo or are you all about value and just using some run of the mill products with no real care about fancy buttons, high DPI movement or any other angle with some of these super expensive keyboards and mice out there.

Apple Magic Mouse 2
Apple Magic Trackpad 2 (love this for scrolling, panning, and zooming in Logic)

Dell KB-1421 - gorgeous. Charity shop find (OK, I was volunteering there - but I had to persuade the manager not simply to bin it and I did leave it till the end of day until I bought it).

Logitech T-BB13 - never, ever bettered. I bought a PERIMICE-520 Wired USB trackball for my work laptop (and a Logitech keyboard), which isn't bad (although I can't convince Linux to recognise three/four of the buttons properly).

But habits are hard to break - the Logitech trackball really is lovely.

Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0. Also commissioning a Razer Viper (wired).

I'm still using a Logitech G213/G203 wired keyboard and mouse combo I bought about 3 or 4 years ago.
Seems to have held up well. I don't like full mechanical keyboards as they are too loudly clacky so it's a good compromise.
I also can't be doing with wireless keys/mouse, find they're always slightly flaky.

I don't really care much about keyboards, I'll use whatever's in front of me, but I am extremely fussy about my mouse, so I have a Mad Catz R.A.T. 4+ at home, another at the office and a third BNIB as a back-up (because they don't make them any more).

A backlit keyboard is a must. Used for over 10 years and you don't need fully lit room to cover keyboard as well.

I have a couple of Logitech K740, to have some spair if one breaks. Did some minor repair of cable that started to glitch. A few keys needed cleaning and then fine. But really like them. 4-5 different lit levels.

Only thing I don't like about the K740 is that Function keys are favored for second function that Logitech chose, open email or similar, so F1-F12 are not backlit which is a drawback.

Right hand, for mouse function I am really impressed by modern touch pads how smooth they operate many functions. So got some for daw stationary computer too, Perixx Peripad-504. But did not do the swap yet, or might just add that and have mouse too. My new computer is just up and running properly.

For left hand I use Countour Design Shuttle Express. Basically use to zoom in/out timeline in daw and move playback cursor with jogwheel. Really nice to have that thing in backbone and you navigate easier. There are some buttons too that you configure as for each application. It senses which program is running and the setup is adjusted accordingly sending keyboard commands for you. You have support for modifiers like shift, ctrl, mouse wheel and such if to combine to something useful for that program you run.

Mouse: Razor DeathAdder Elite

Both are wired and both are very good in both Windows and Mac (connected to a switch between the two computers). I have them for more than 3 years I think! I really don't remember! but they are not new anyway. I substituted wireless shitty G603 mouse and a cheap Microsoft keyboard.

I thought to buy an Apple keyboard and mouse but the thing is, what I have is really good, so why wasting money! Yes, the wires are annoying, but I got used to them for many years!

What I like mostly about the mouse is that it's very comfortable to use and I rest my hand on it for hours without a fatigue. It feels very good in the hand and the clicking/scrolling is rather soft. I also like how I can speed the movement of the mouse arrow without opening any settings (the speeds are customisable though). What I dislike about the mouse is Razor's software (It is mostly disabled, but it is there if I need it).

What I like about the keyboard is the red backlight and controlling the brightness of it. The typing is also very good (it is mechanical, so it feels vintage and clicky!). Oh, there is also a USB port on it, so I can use it for the mouse or any other usb device. Nothing to dislike really.

If you do much typing it’s worth looking at the apple scissor switch keyboards, you can get the old wired ones for very little now & they are really nice to use. I’m a light typist & write a lot of code & so tried out quite a few keyboards, some expensive & I’d always have missing letters that hadn’t triggered & so I’d have to go back. In the end I saw an apple one pretty cheap on eBay & gave it a go & it’s a really nice keyboard to use & used it for 5-6 years. The layout is different to PC but I just pretended it wasn’t as I know where everything is on a PC layout despite the labels. I’m actually on Mac now but still use PC British layout for the keys which would confuse anyone else who uses my machine I’ve now got a Bluetooth version & passed on the old one to a mate on a PC who also loves it.

Mouse, for years I’ve used a Corsair M65 pro, they’re a bit unreliable & I’ve had to replace the switches, they also have the sticky rubber which has to be scrubbed off when it gets sticky, but shape wise they suit me & don’t give me RSI.

Recently I’ve got an apple trackpad, and that has totally transformed things for me. Takes a bit of getting used to but the way it’s integrated into MACOS is very clever & time saving. They’re pricey & likely more useful on a MAC, but there is an open source driver that apparently makes them work the same on PCs. I haven’t used the mouse since I bought it.

I know suggesting apple stuff is a fire stoker for some people. I don’t care about that myself these days, they make great keyboards.

I use the in-built keyboard and trackpad on my laptop that I bought during the pandemic, which is enough for my needs. I did consider getting a seperate desktop from System76 for some length of time, and therefore know about the Launch keyboard product line, but I did not follow through.

Forum members recommended the Logitech MX Master 2S mouse to me and it was great advice. The wheel can be set to spin freely (no clicks) and that makes it excellent for adjusting parameters.

Logitech MX Master 3S. The silent click of the mouse keys is something you will not want to give back. Every time I pick up another mouse, the "clickyness" is unbearable...
But I also use a Trackpad at the same time for gestures.
Magic Keyboard with fingerprint sensor... which of course has no use in Windows, but I also really, really liked my Microsoft Surface Keyboard (which I still have).
