Against: they could have tried harder to make the panel/UI a bit more unique
For: at least the UI is actually readable
Always Read the Manual!

Am I going to buy one, yes. Do I think that I could do a better design in a few hours, also yes. They spend too much energy trying to make it look too much like Maths so that they can be sure to sell them to people too stupid to figure out that the functionality is the same.

There's a lot that I like about Maths, its layout is not one of those things. This is, in many ways, much worse.

f**k I hate those behringer trim-pots!

Also, going to say it: Make Noise uses fugly fonts, and so does Behringer on their non-vintage clone stuff.

To be able to get a Plaits, Quad VCA, Batumi, Maths and Marbles all for probably ~£500ish is just too tempting.

indeed, even for me who already has them, im currently thinking "well, ide more likely to take a skiff full of these to a local gig than 2 grands worth in a nice easy to walk off with package..."

did the same thing years back with a pedal board, used cheap behringer clones in grotty bars and left my nice stuff safe at home.

so today's make noise video, mirror/reverse clue!?
if so, im definitely leaning towards some kind of souped up morphagene granular sampler type thing :hyper:
id still love a desktop with some morphagene and some mimeophon inside, that would be an instant buy.

Paired with my £420 Blue Marvin makes for a very affordable but capable rig me thinks.

"Baths"

Only Behringer would release such an exact copy of Maths features/limitations while claiming to be inspired by the Buchla modules that preceded it but were quite different... they could have given a somewhat fresh take on the concept, or at least put EOR and EOC outputs on both channels, but nope, that's not the Behringer way.

Honestly, for a B module it almost looks good visually -- aside from the logo font and the irrelevant sine wave graphic anyway.

In actual usage I probably wouldn't like the trimmers instead of normal sized knobs that Maths had, though. I'd also have to try one personally to see if they got the knob response right or cut corners there.

If they were going for the "Maths is too big" crowd, minipots might have made sense. But in an ironic twist, they did that while keeping the module exactly 20HP. Way to go, chumps.

Aubery makes some great, inexpensive modules but in very short runs. The DIY section of her website is pretty incredible. Tons of useful stuff!

Yes, having fun. My gas has been kept in check by confusion with the plethora of available modules and the high prices making me nervous of making a mistake. Still trying to ask myself what it is I can’t do with 2600 as a guide as to what to get but I’m still learning it’s capabilities.

Either way, Pam s, Maths and Disting ex are coming my way. :hyper:
I ordered them yesterday.

We ll see how i am going to deal with the Behringer Maths clone later but i will enjoy my Maths for now.

I have quite a bit of functionality covered now, so i ll wait for the Behringer Batumi and Marbles to come in later.

awesome 8)

there's plenty of synth already in the arp, so yeah, aside from adding bells and whistles, there probably isnt a great deal you can't do (digital stuff aside, of course)
and a lovely sound too.

My thinking at the moment is that I can’t sequence the 2600’s three oscillators separately as I only have one VCA even though I have three tracks of pitch and gate CV out of my Korg SQ64 so I’ll probably start with some VCAs.

Also the oscillators “only” have the standard waveforms, albeit with FM and sync. So another oscillator with alternative tones (probably the B. Brains) or some for of tone mangling/manipulation (wavefolding maybe?) is my next consideration.

Then it’s probably alternative filters. Was going with a wasp (cheap) but really like the look of the Joranalogue Filter 8.

Anyway not in a hurry yet and really want to keep it to 84HP to rack up with the 2600 as I am short of space. Also who knows what Behringer will turn out next to make my wallet smile.

yeah behringer are killing it on prices.

i get why some are upset, it is kind of shitty, but on the other hand, there are plenty of people, especially in lesser economies, but here also, who simply can't afford to get in to modular

a few years ago, i was the same but got lucky, but id have loved the option to get the major modules like maths for this kind of price :)

There are other cheap alternatives besides Behringer though, that don't just rip off other companies' designs. Ladik, Doepfer, Dreadbox etc.

And there's AE Modular for a much cheaper option (if very fiddly with those tiny wires). And lots of very good semi-modulars that are quite a bit cheaper than Eurorack.

And software modular is really great these days, not the same feel as hardware of course but VCV Rack is pretty amazing.
