Pulsar 8200 is a faithful emulation of the legendary GML 8200 designed by George Massenburg*, the inventor of the parametric EQ. Full EQ control is a formality today, but it was a dazzling novelty back in the days.

Just like the original machine, Pulsar 8200 gives you a tight and solid low end, a crystalline high end, and surgical control over the frequency spectrum. He perfectly replicates the all-discrete, Class-A analog electronics that made the original machine famous in the 80s, and still used today.

Its parallel topology, coupled with unique filtering shapes, allows an intuitive and unique spectrum shaping, resulting in smooth curves, and a more natural result compared to classic digital EQ, maintaining its own “analog personality”.

And here we go again. Another parametric eq 😂 much needed.

the hardware units are so exe. around 10 grand here.

yeah i need another EQ like i need a hole in the head but i'll still demo it.
I didn't buy the Massive EQ, even though i like it.

Insta buy. If I knew this was coming out today, I'd have held out on Softube's Tonelux Tilt yesterday... who knew? I Don't regret anything :x :hihi: 8)

Looks nice. When I'm mixing, especially EQ'ing, I like working fixed frequency knobs instead of freely moveable points on the spectrum analyzer. This is the best of both worlds. Plus this has some cool welcomed added features like auto gain, tilt and deesser and more. And it doesn't hurt that the UI looks beautiful, no stupid scratches or rust on my screen.

Wonder how it would compare to the AMEK EQs, as this one isn't cheap by any means (89 euroes on sale), while you can grab the AMEK EQs for way less.

And another EQ purchased...nice one Pulsar :tu:

It sounds very 3d and adds colour while still being clear, its a great EQ but I don't need it so might pass

The comiparison woudl be the Amek 200. I can't tell you about that, but I picked up the Amek 250 recently and think it is an excellent EQ for mastering tracks. I expect the Amek 200 is also great, just a bit cleaner.

Of course the sound woudl eb the main thing to compare - but - this EQ looks really useful with Tilt, and the graphic display is a nice feature too even if just from having a point of interest of seeing what the EQ curves do comapred to a standard parametric eq.

I do have the AMEK EQ 250 as well. It's one of my favorite EQ's for mastering. The AMEK 200 is a fusion between the GML and Sontec EQ's and is inspired by the sound of 8200, it's not a 1:1 emulation of the 8200, but surely close enough.

Anyways, as much as I like the Pulsar 8200, I'm not about to spend money on it, considering the fact that I do have the AMEK 250 and ofcourse I'm on the subscription as well, so I'm pretty much set. If I ever decide to go off the subscription and start buying perpetual licenses (again), I'd pick up the Pulsar 8200 over the others no doubt.

Sounds quite nice and open, very fast to work with, then again I have TDR Slick EQ M for mastering (and sometimes colouring) duties. Might instead of this get the Pulsar Massive, their Mu is amazing one.

Well the Amek 200 and 250 are basically $29. If this sounded as good then I think possibly the extra gui and tilt woudl make it the better tool, but it's quite a bit more expensive.

gotta say I really like how they are showing the eq curves. this is the way to add digital to an analog recreation.

any actual A/B tests with a Plugin Alliance EQ??
i gave up doing so, as Toneboosters EQ kinda smoked all of em, before Pulsar 8200 was even an idea.

Where I give Pulsar a ton of credit: these folks understand GUI, workflow, and what features to include.

Look at this thing: gorgeous UI, scalable, negligible amount of wasted space. Doesn't take ages to load.

Workflow and feature-wise: auto-gain, a de-esser (!), adjustable gain scale, tilt EQ, sub+air bands, HP filter, an analyzer for modern-style what you see is what you get EQ'ing if desired, that can also be totally disabled and hidden, not to mention M/S!

Pulsar "get's it".

And, I got a loyalty offer that offers the plugin at $59. So they're also good to their customers (note: I'm one of those, "I like iLok" people, and these guys offer multiple licenses).

And it sounds great (though, yeah, it's a clean-ish EQ and I got those already). But there's literally nothing I don't like about their releases. If I were CEO of a plugin company, I'd try to do everything Pulsar are doing, the way they're doing it. I'll certainly be picking this up. I just convinced myself via this post! :)
