They explained the rationale in an another email to me and it actually makes sense. I won't quote their response without their permission (and I'm not going to bother to ask), but I'll summarize their rationale, which is: a big chunk of their user base consists of production studios where multiple people in the business would otherwise be using multiple activations simultaneously, which they don't want. But however, they don't mind individual users having multiple activations for single use at a time (i.e. you have a Mac and a PC, and you're only one person, so you're not using both computers simultaneously). So they've implemented this policy that is a little more work for them, in order to meet the needs of those single users, while avoiding production studios with multiple users taking advantage. They're probably checking whether the license is tied to a business before doling out the additional activations.Harry_HH wrote: Tue May 02, 2023 8:24 am
Can I get the first one only for asking, without exchanging money?
If you get the second license by asking, why can’t they deliver 2 in the first place?
Strange policy.
Anyway, I did just receive the 2 additional, expiring after a year, activations. So I'm good for the next 2 years before having to ask for new ones.

I love that a vocoder slaps, hahaPloki wrote: Tue May 02, 2023 12:50 pm damn, demoing this and it slaps.
pretty much the best vocoder i've tried.
not sure if i'll be able to restrain myself. It's just hard to make it sound bad.

i suggest you don't demo it.
just close this thread and forget this vocoder ever existed.
It's expensive, and you will buy it.
And the CPU hit is substantial, but it's quite inspiring. Sprouted a great track for me yesterday.

Well... f**k! I started to demo it. Balls...sqigls wrote: Tue May 02, 2023 11:23 pm i suggest you don't demo it.

It's a really nice synthesizer, as well as a ridiculously good vocoder!
I really don't need a vocoder, I never use them, but i'm nearly hitting buy.... WHAT THE f**k Zynaptiq??!
Edit: I bought it.

Wow, this is unlike any other vocoder I have tried. Incredible sound quality with laser-like precision that makes vocals come alive! I really like having a variety of algorithms to choose from and the ones implemented in Orange Vocoder IV can produce wildly different effects.
I'm looking forward to experimenting with it and finding creative uses to build up my personal sound library. The wait for it's release was legendary (ha ha), but Zynaptiq have released a fine piece of software!! Highly recommended!!

As the others said: If you don't have the money, don't test it. GAS is your enemy, and in the end, you will buy it. It's quite addictive, and loads of fun.
It's hard to say "it was worth the wait" when the wait was a century or two - but it was.

Yes, it seems the LFO's are free running only, which is strange, given the many other modulation options this offers. It looks like a conscious omission, though - not sure what their rationale was here.
Technically, you can sync to DAW via automation, though, as pretty much everything can be MIDI controlled (in the upper left corner, press the MIDI icon, and little triangles appear nearly everywhere - when clicking on these triangles, a whole sub-menu for MIDI automation appears). Funny enough, even the algorithm selector can be MIDI controlled.
Also something I found out by exploring: In the synth section, hovering over the border lines of the boxes (for example the OSC sub section/box) will highlight them yellow. Clicking them now will reveal a sub menu (in the lower part of the window), which offers additional options that are not available in the main synth section.
Maybe there's more hidden here... soooo many options, so little time.

Remixing an old track of mine (Hang Seven) for a live show, modulating the main pad sound with the drum buss using Zynaptiq’s Orange Vocoder.

I'm pretty sure using it on drums voids the warranty.
In all seriousness, sounds great as per usual. Your patch/sound design is always inspirational Simon!
