Want to buy my first analog synth.

I recently bought a Polybrute (online). Sending it back would've been annoying indeed. It's big and heavy and I don't have a car/licence (to transport it to the post office).

Luckily, I love the thing! (and no technical issues)

One thing to consider about all of this is the keybed. I’m quite picky about the feel of the keybed. I prefer the semi weighted feel of the old Ensoniq and Roland or Fatar Studiologic keybeds. There have been some great sounding synths with lousy keybeds. That’s why I’ve never been completely married to the idea of attached keyboards. Take the Prophet that I mentioned earlier:

This desktop module would let you pick a nice midi controller, while still having all the knob twisting functionality of the synth. I’ve had synths with keyboards in the past that I would plug into my main controller rather than playing directly because I hated the keybed feel so much. It’s something to consider...

I haven't encountered many keys that bothered me. Only one that I can think of: the Korg MS20 usb controller.
I have more issues with wobbly knobs/sliders, or when they're too small, or spaced too close together.

That too! That’s why I was never interested in those tiny Roland boutique remakes. Using hardware is about the tactile feel of everything, as much as the sound—otherwise, there’s no reason to not use plugins.

Change everything. Behringer have released their Pro800 for US$399!
It's 8 voice all analogue, emu of the old Sequential, and though not the most mega-featured poly you can get, it blows all others out of the water. 1/4 the price of the nearest competitor. Even blows away their own Deepmind. And it WILL sound like what it's emulating. There's a section of music-based interwebz that detest anything Behringer, but most who actually own them know they're good. Ignore the web bullshit - I've got Behringer gear going back decades that have outlasted far fancier and more expensive gear. I have a Lexicon and LA comp that are poorly, bought at the same time as 2 cheapo Behringer units in the 90s and those are still going strong.

I bought a Wasp, 2600, TD3 and Monopoly and can tell you they are f**king great synths. They sit alongside others far more expensive synths very happily.

Going on 5 years later with the SE-02 and I still enjoy using it. And the sounds it produces are fantastic.

And there's no reason to not use plugins regardless of whether or not you also use hardware.

If one wants a poly analogue you really can't lose with this. Get one, then if you don't like it, sell it on.

Sometimes my favourite way to play synths is from my digital piano. The extra feel can help me play better, especiaily for a poly where I'm less likely to want to tweak.

I wish there was some kind of small midi controller just with some knobs, sliders, maybe drum pad, and most importantly some pitch/mod and other wheels that could extend the piano into more of a controller.

I was just thinking this morning that it is so long since I've plugged in my Analog Keys, which I also bought 5 years ago, that I have completely forgotten how to use it, beyond what I knew before I bought it. I am going to have to learn it all over again when/if we ever get around to rehearsing for a live show. But one thing is for sure, though - I will be interfacing with it via Overbridge in Studio One, not from its front panel.

Yeah but it only has a low-pass filter. That seems pointless to me. I wouldn't swap my Uno Pro for one. Thinking about it, I wouldn't swap my Uno Pro for anything less than an Aston Martin.

Of course they are, they were created by serious, passionate people who don't deserve to be ripped off by some German dickhead.
