Also still in test - mode; so far the ones you have chosen from the Tascam - bundle, plus the 24 and 440 from the old one. Not too sure about the 99 and 80 yet. Might just go with the Stealth Limiter in the end.musicproducerdee wrote: Sun May 07, 2023 3:53 pm Hey guys. I've decided to use the current $49.99 promo and get 5 plugins. I'm set on

FAME Studio Reverb
Sunset Sound Studio Reverb
TASCAM 388
TEAC A-6100 MKII
I'm sure about the reverbs, I have to have them, I love them. What do you'll think about the Tape Machines. I want something from the newer Tascam collection, not the old ones. Are they any good or should I swap one with probably the Chicarelli Vocal Strip?

These are the two from the Tascam Collection I also went with... I wish I had taken a third one rather that the useless Space Delay... I have everything else now. (I also took the Chicarelli and the Farm Stone)

Chicharelli and FSR are all that I'm missing that I want. Got most of them in 2021. I'll wait.

I'm almost sure about the Tascam 388. Not sure about the TEAC A-6100 MKII. It's basically a mastering tape machine. Thinking between this and the Chicarelli Vocal Strip. Any other suggestions? I'm trying to stick to plugins that other manufacturers don't make, for example the reverbs are exclusive to IK, and they are very good.

The "older" tape machines are studio tape machines. Studers, Ampex, etc. When you think, "I want the tape sound of classic records", what you want is the original tape machine collection. The Tascam tapes are a few months or a year newer, have the same level quality of modeling as the oirginal collection [i.e. they're not like based on newer tech], but they're home tape machines from the 70s and 80s. Not studio stuff.musicproducerdee wrote: Sun May 07, 2023 3:53 pm Hey guys. I've decided to use the current $49.99 promo and get 5 plugins. I'm set on

I've got a Tascam A-3440 right next to me. It's fine and all, but it's no Studer.
So if you want studio tape sounds like classic records, get the original Tape Collection (or machines from that). If you want home/prosumer tape sounds, I'd get the Tascam stuff. Though the 388 is probably even more lofi than prosumer, being strictly for home demoing (unless you're Bruce Springsteen writing Nebraska).
Sunset Sound and FAME are excellent BTW! Highly recommended.

Hey, thanks for the info, I'll definitely consider this. The newer one's interested me more because they were officially approved by Tascam. Not sure how much that changes things, but just for the sake of it. I'll take a look around.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun May 07, 2023 8:08 pmThe "older" tape machines are studio tape machines. And yes, the reverbs seem to be real winners, I can't believe they aren't more popular. I guess it has to do with IK's installation process and bloatware.

I’ve been going to Tape Machine 24 for individual tracks, lately, and Tape Machine 440 on the 2-buss.
Like a real Studer A80/A800, Tape Machine 80 sounds real laid back, while Tape Machine 24 is more focused, like a real MCI JH24. Both are fantastic and you won’t go wrong with either, but they definitely sound different, with different energy levels that you should be aware of when choosing one.
The best thing to do is to A/B them against each other across an entire mix. Their individual character and differences really begin to present themselves as a cumulative effect.

So basically, I plan on using the Tascam 388 on individual channels for some coloration/distortion/grit etc (not all though, my CPU will go on strike against my heroics).jamcat wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 8:44 am I’ve been going to Tape Machine 24 for individual tracks, lately, and Tape Machine 440 on the 2-buss.

The other one that I've decided on, the Studer A80, I plan on using on the Mix Bus (or group channels) or the Master Bus. So I was thinking that it would be good if it's a little subtle. Although I am kinda intrigued by the MCI as well. Wish I could just get all of them haha. Will probably upgrade to the full T-RackS suite in the future, during some sale.

The IK space delay is great. Lots of character. It just sounds great. I have all the tapes. I rarely use the Tascam's. I tend to use 24 and 80 more. They are very CPU hungry. I tend to think they are meant for using on a bus. One or two instances per project at most. But try it in demo mode and see. Maybe it works different on different DAWs.

Nah, I use the 24 on (almost) every track on my projects together with loads of other plugins and I never run out of CPU on my laptop - not nearly.MidnightRunner wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 10:43 am I tend to use 24 and 80 more. Wow, I’m more like Midnight Runner. Can only use one instance. What laptop you got? I’m on the last Mac i9.jens wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 11:00 amNah, I use the 24 on (almost) every track on my projects together with loads of other plugins and I never run out of CPU on my laptop - not nearly.MidnightRunner wrote: Mon May 08, 2023 10:43 am I tend to use 24 and 80 more. I have a 2+ years old Legion 5 with a 4800h - but most any 12th or even more so 13th gen Intel will totally smoke it. (Not available back then - 11th gen Intel was a sad fail.)
I purchased it directly on the Lenovo website during nighttime (best deals then - at least back then) and it was like ~1000€ instead of ~1400, so really not super-expensive at all. (I did install a second 1TB HD and doubled up the RAM to 32GB later on though, so it was ~1200 in total.)

I was thinking of investing in a Mac Mini (M2). But then again, I've been a Windows user all my life. And for the price of a Mac Mini + accessories, I could get a very well built Windows Laptop that I could carry anywhere. Oh well, I could do both once I'm rich, for now, all hail freeze track optionjens wrote: Tue May 09, 2023 9:28 am I have a 2+ years old Legion 5 with a 4800h - but most any 12th or even more so 13th gen Intel will totally smoke it.
