What exactly has automation to do with it? I do not automate anything. And I just gave you an example preset, there are far worse presets.

So I don't think that they will fix this problem.

I remember op wrote there won't be demo versions any more.
You can listen to many sound demos on yt, but without demo you can't find out how the plugin performs on your system, though, so you have the risk to buy a plugin that doesn't perform properly on your system, but isn't life full of risks?!
The risk is about 200 USD, not sure whether you could resell plugin.
Buy - try and?...

That is a tempting price - I used to own it but sold it. I do think it is probably the best sounding VST overall but having that big waste of space for the expansions and a few other workflow niggles put me off.
I use a Macbook trackpad 3 finger swipe now for VST parameters which I remember felt weird on Avenger last time I tried the demo - knobs moved too fast or something - really off putting not being able to try it before buying.

Also - the Impulse reverb seemed to have changed last time I tried it - the impulse responses I loved had gone - Manuels toolbox or something they were called!

You can get the old demo by logging into your Pluginboutique account and going to the Avenger page on Pluginboutique's site. There will a small link to add the demo to you PB account near the Add to Cart button.

If I buy the 5XP I don't have to choose all at the same time correct?
Tbh I am only interested in the two Big Tone Expansions... (to my non EDM ear, almost all of the rest sound the same to me, though I have already bought Melodic Techno 1&2 on a PB sale, but I haven't really used them.)
But ideally could I buy this, choose the 2 Big Tone Expansion and sometime in the future slowly choose my other 3, as more expansions get released?

And if this is possible, anyone know how long I can take to choose all 5?

Correct. I still have one blank slot from when I bought 2 or 3 years ago, and it shows up inviting me to choose when I’m logged in.
