Am iPad has one speaker even though it combines stereo tracks so why would you want to use Logic on it?

Because no one uses ipad 'speakers' (or laptop I assume) for pro audio?osiris wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 1:18 pm Am iPad has one speaker even though it combines stereo tracks so why would you want to use Logic on it?

Using a Touch screen is no more tiring than using hardware synths. You can put it at whatever angle you want. I use something like this:pdxindy wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 6:20 pmThat is tiring on the neck. I like my monitor as it is, up at eye height facing me.machinesworking wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 6:06 pmThe Slate Raven doesn't get tiring but you set it up at a 45º angle on your desktop, not on a stand. The two main things the Raven gets used for here all the time are sound design and mixing. For a lot of things touch is fantastic, sound design for instance, playing the keyboard while tweaking knobs and sliders like what you do with hardware is ideal, but of course typing, and sometimes mousing is better. The idea is simple, touch works best when your arms are not extended at or above your chest, facing down like with an iPhone etc. works for a reason.revvy wrote: Wed May 10, 2023 2:11 pm Not really down with touch on computers either, makes your arms ache to lean across to touch a large, slightly distant monitor.
Plus the area right in front of me where my arms/hands are comfortable is already taken with my controllers and other gear. There is no place for a touch screen.

It also leave the area under it for other controllers/gear. So it take no more room than a regular monitor and easily adjusts depending on what you're doing with it. It's been amazing. Touch on windows is probably the main reason I've been using Windows for years.
Not sure if an ipad can be used with an external touch monitor like this but I'd be interested if so.

And the $10 Apple USB C to 3.5 socket (headphones/speaker) is an excellent DAC!

I disagree... my hardware synth I don't need to always be looking at it. When I am playing the keyboard, I don't need to have my eyes sharply focused on it like with a touch screen. On my PolyBrute, I can use the various controllers, envelopes, etc. with little visual attention.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 1:47 pm

With a touchscreen, I have to actually look down and stay focused on it cause there is no tactile feedback or muscle memory. With my controllers/synths I can have my head up and just the downward peripheral vision is enough much of the time.

Fair enough for simple desktops synths. But I'm not sure this is true with complex digital hardware synths, rack synths, modular rigs etc.pdxindy wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 3:09 pmI disagree... my hardware synth I don't need to always be looking at it. My modular is a wall in front of me... I am not looking down. Lots of people use software editors for more complex synths, rack synths, etc.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 3:59 pm

Anyway, if someone likes touchscreens, that is their choice. All I can say is I have not found it ergonomically enjoyable and also that the space right in front of me is already taken by more important gear.
Ergonomics aside, I also find touchscreens less precise than the mouse. I have more errors with touchscreens cause fingers are too big and there's no tactile feedback.
Where I like my iPad is for drawing. But after exploring it for music, I realized I am more efficient with the classic setup.

Yeah, you haven't heard one in person then. They're 'nice' as far as a tablet goes, but I wouldn't use those for any remotely critical DAW work.. I don't even like the way my Apple Music library sounds out of it, but hey its better than the speaker in my Mac Mini.aMUSEd wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 1:43 pm IPad Pro has 4

I have one - of course I hook it up to my Genelecs at home but when out and about I use headphone anyway but they aren't terrible by any means.mothra wrote: Thu May 11, 2023 5:22 pmYeah, you haven't heard one in person then.
