Very strange, I've installed different version on multiple (even offline) PCs over the years - always works fine.
And yeah, it's "smallish" on my 109 dpi monitor, but not unusable.

Isn't that a different (new) program? - looks like it is the old (and very good) SAMPLR app (I think that developer joined Apple http://marcosalonso.com/ )

X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yeah, maybe that is correct. I was just repeating what someone said.

Anyway, as is in Mac Logic, Alchemy has been developed a lot since the old version available for Windows

One interesting thing from the developer thread here on AU, Apple told one that AU(2) is deprecated. That would mean in the future Apple will push for AUv3 as standard in I would guess the same strong arm way Steinberg is doing with VSTs. I'm guessing Logic for iPad is going to start the push for AUv3 from Apple and end users of course.

It "should" be a pretty cool thing, but again like everything (but Ableton Link and CLAP), it's pushing this "stay in your DAW and/or OS lane of choice" narrative on us. The downside of enclosed environments that "just work".

Any links to this statement about AU(2) being deprecated??

Markus from Tone 2 about halfway down the thread..
the bold part I added.

It either
- requires a reboot to detect recently installed audiounits
or
- an ugly script in the installer that kills a process

The issue is known to Apple. I had a conversation with one of their developers a few years ago and he said they won't fix it as AUv2 is "deprecated".

Thanks..

So IMO that points to a possible speeding up of AUv3 pushing by Apple. At some point I would bet Logic dumps AUv2 like Cubase dumped VST2.

I think you are correct. And perhaps we'll know a lot more at June Apple WWDC.

is it currently even possible to install Auv3 plug ins without the app store?

i don't know where they go in MacOS when they're installed.

the paranoid side of me suspects this push for pro apps on the ipad w/Auv3 plug ins.. while iOS-ifyig MacOS more and more means they're on a path towards one OS for all the things and eventually, when processors are fast enough, cool enough, small enough etc no more laptops and only PRO ipads all sand boxed to oblivion.

but as said.. that's just the paranoid me... and not something i think about except when threads like this happen about apple.. doing stuff.

Nice thing about KVRs longevity we can check on this in the future.

Flatly, that’s IMO exactly what is happening. At some point in the future iOS and Mac OS will be almost indistinguishable. Basically the hardware the OS is installed on will determine the interface the OS adopts.

A good friend of mine used to work at Apple before the iPhone came out, they were asked to strip OS X of as much as entirely possible and still have it operate. It turns out what they were doing was providing proof of concept. They at the core are the same.

I get your fear though, if you’re worried that we will get less control over your computer etc.

At Apple's developer conference in June, a big push for AUv3 could speed things along. Especially if it ties together the use of gpu cores for audio dsp. Apple's move into VR headset will demand low latency audio.

Agreed, surely Apple will introduce something different in not mind blowing

In which alternative universe is that?
Try doubling that and you may be closer to the real price.
