And just after I posted that, I switched it off and back on.. now the display is back to normal again! It's just seems to be pot luck when it'll work and when it won't so I'm not sure if a loose wire or loose chip could cause that?

And also when it's connected now, and working ok, I've given it a shake, it still stays fine. But do you think there's still a chance it could a loose part inside causing it or more likely a strange software issue?

Dont know really, I think the first thing I would check is the power switch on the back, wiggle that while its on and see if anything untoward happens, also maybe its a temperature thing and it only messes up after running for a while. How much did you pay for it, I bought mine brand new for £80 from Music Matters.

Me too, first thing I did was to check the switch and any loose connections with the USB lead. Even tried switching leads too. I don't think it's a temperature thing because it happens when I first switch it on in the morning (after it was off all night). Paid £30 for it, the seller told me about the LCD 8-block problem, but never mentioned the midi connection randomly dropping out when the 8 blocks are showing. I tested it before I bought it though and the midi seemed to be working ok but maybe I just caught it at a good time when it happened to be working normally.bibz1st wrote:Dont know really, I think the first thing I would check is the power switch on the back, wiggle that while its on and see if anything untoward happens, also maybe its a temperature thing and it only messes up after running for a while. Hi, if anyone interested, i managed to repair my Graphite 49 defective LCD Display by gently heating its glued connector, then pressing it with soft rubber to fix contacts.

Care to share a few more details? Did you first remove the yellow plastic covering the connector? How much did you warm it? Did the black glue(?) melt? Would it have burnt your fingers?

hi, i didn't remove anything, just applied heat with small heat gun like the one attached bellow.
2 or 3 minutes heating at 2cm distance approx. (nothing melted, just kindly hot on touch).

bad news though, less than 1 year after this trick, my Graphite display once again only display some random points
I guess i will have to start the trick again, but i'd like to find a more definitive thing to do... or i will have to change keyboard. it is really a shame that Samson doesn't give a sh... about this problem, despite me serving them a solution to solve it on a plate. They never answered me back.
The definitive solution may be to remove the cable from the board, clean the board with flux and re-attached the cable, or a new connector ?
or maybe while looking back at my original photo, insert some piece within the 2 bolts to apply constant pressure on the cable connector ? looks easier to me, i thing i will try this, just have to find the right thickness (hard plastic or aluminium should do the trick)

Okay i tried a second chance heating lcd cable but no luck. I found that applying too much heat corrupted the crap glue used to fix the cable.
I tried to apply flux and soldering, but it made it worse, the cable is now severely damaged and i can confirm now that this keyboard is pure crap, i’ve never seen so lowend components, it’s really a shame about samson.
I contacted the samson local service office here in France to ask them if i could put my hand on a spare LCD to replace it completely.
I’m waiting for their answer with no hope at all. I am about to trash this sh… away
I just ordered a casio ct-s1 to practice piano and still have midi connection (i will add an arturia beatstep pro later), and i will never buy any samson hardware anymore.

Hi everyone, so it was a pain in the a$$ but i finally managed to order the Graphite49 full LCD module (40€) from the online dealer i bought this keyboard 12 years ago here in France.
Samson has the worst customer service i ever seen!
I had no answer from US support when i noticed that on their website they say that one should contact its local repair office representative to deal with repairs.
So i managed to contact Samson representative here in France… just to get a dumb answer : « we never had this model in hands, we don’t have any spare parts, so we can’t help you, you should contact US support ». Ouch
I then contacted their US office again, several times before they dare to respond, just to tell me after several weeks, that they can’t export the module outside the US… and that i should contact their representative in France!
I told them i had already and that they can’t help me. They replied that they will get in touch with their French representative to try to figure it out… and got back to me just to tell me that their French representative never heard of me!
So I forwarded them the bunch of emails conversations i had with their french representative, starting to get really p.ss.d about this! And their answer came like breeze: « you should contact a local dealer so he can order the spare part from us… we don’t sell to individuals ».
Pfewwww never ever gonna buy any Samson gear

Hi everyone, regarding my LCD problem above, after months and months trying to get spare parts from Samson (unsuccessful), after months and months trying again with my local Samson dealer, i finally got a positive answer from Samson : as they were unable to provide spare parts for the Graphite 49, they decided to replace my keyboard (bought in 2012) at no additional cost, i just paid the LCD (months ago) and i had to return the faulty keyboard to my local dealer.
Worst experience ever, but with a happy end.
