How to make this FM Bass sound, or something similiar

Just after 1:30, It's the bass after the standard reese bass. It's quite deep sounding.

It can be heard again at 4:43.



Now it sounds to me like one of the operators gradually comes in via an envelope at a higher pitch. I just can't seem to get anywhere close. Distortion seems to be key I reckon.
