And then... you play that sound into Spectraphon.Stefken wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 3:20 pm Hell, in some spectral vst s you can just import an image and hear it as sound.....

The GAS in this thread is off the chain. Could one of you open a window so we can get some fresh air up in here?

Preordered Spectraphon from Control NYC
When capturing a wavetable, the period of a cycle of the input has to exactly match the length of a single cycle in the wavetable bank, or the mismatch will screw up the timbre. (Theoretically, if you modulated the wavetable index at exactly the right rate relative to the oscillator frequency you could get away with the mismatch, but at that point it's just acting like a pointlessly complicated sampler.)
For spectral captures, you don't have to worry about alignment. But I'm very curious how well it will capture something tricky like a supersaw -- at any rate it should be pretty interesting as long as you modulate Slide/Focus while playing back.
Using SAO mode is gonna be a lot like using a wavetable osc, but easier in some ways.Stefken wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 2:15 pm I am not grasping yet how spectral analysis relates to traditional sampling.
If you would clock the analysis, and you would input some classic waveshapes in a structured way, into the 1024 possible spectra snapshots, what would be the result.
E.g. if you input a supersaw, would it not try to represent that supersaw as closely as possible by generating a ton of sine waves? And if you scan through that array of classic waveshape snapshots, you could use it somewhat as a wavetable osc.

phew, now i don't need to do any tedious building of reels from single cycle waves

Might want to put it up now, or hold onto it for a while… they’re starting to show up used in higher numbers than usual, but it’s a trickle so far.vurt wrote: Mon May 15, 2023 5:48 pm

How can you guys still afford this stuff these days? cost of living is so high, with my new place, my rent actually quadrupled. I have the money, but don't actually want to spend it on stuff anymore. Even aside from the MN thing, I've little desire to buy anymore HW or SW at all.
