No not live (even though I think the manual says it does.) But if you record what you want and pull it up as a wave it can save it in midi and it's pretty spot on.

Post

Indeed, as an FL use I use it a fair bit for stuff, but the OP specifically wants to use a mic live to control VSTs.
I know I can do all this (not in real time) using audio to midi in my DAW but I thought it might be fun to try in real time.

Post

Well doing it live could be funner, but the free polyphonic converter looks pretty interesting.

If I understand correctly he wants to sing into a mic and have it transcribed to midi and played back real time? That might be a future vocoder. That would be a fun instrument.

Post

That works already with Imitone, warts and all.
And it is rather fascinating with the right instruments - and for me, much more interesting than any vocoder I ever tried... ;-)

Sknote MetaVocals seems like it might also do it with its MIDI output?

"MetaVocals can output MIDI notes that track the pitch as detected by the PitchFix section. These note can be used to be recorded on a track for successive use as an editor or used to control a following, external module with MIDI input (e.g. a synthesizer plugin)."

That is exactly what Vochlea does, which he mentioned. There are others, too, but Vochlea got closest to actually being a usable solution for live performance when I used it a while ago. It's still far from perfect, especially in noisier surroundings. But if you combined with Auto-Tune mid-speed settings to stabilize your pitch and somehow manage all that latency, this is the closest to real-time pitch concersion right now.

Guess, you've got to start saving...

Yup, I was looking for ways to trigger instruments by singing...vochlea seems to be the most comprehensive, as mentioned, however Dodo looks good as a free alternative, will try at weekend

This is probably when AI would help. I'm sure processing power required to do this is quite strenuous so it would make sense for AI to do the heavy lifting.

Hi all,

I just wanted to mention here that when I tried to go to the dodobirdmusic web site, Norton Safe Web reported it as a malicious site. I am aware that Norton does have a reputation for false positives (false alerts) for software, but had never had an experience like this before for a web site that many others have apparently visited without problems.

Just FYI.

Thanks for checking.

The package itself passed Norton's check. (I had already downloaded it on a machine that didn't have Norton Safe Web before seeing the warning on another machine.)

The website is allegedly the problem.

I bet it's the site certificates. Google went on a rampage and now anyone who doesn't have an up to date certs gets warnings when people land on their sites or try to d/l. I couldn't download a plugin from Tokyo Dawn Records. Both Chrome and Edge said 'the file can't be downloaded safely'. I did some checking and no issues anywhere else. I know for a fact TDR is a reputable company.

MTuner is pretty good! Good enough for me.

donkey tugger wrote: Fri May 19, 2023 7:49 pm Melda's free MTuner has a midi-out function. Obviously it's main purpose is a tuner, but the output's actually not bad, and it will send pitch bend.
