So what you are describing is essentially Thru-Zero FM?
This is a subset what Nemesis can do.

What the neoFM engine does is a lot more complex and tricky.
NeoFM = FM/PM + advanced FFT tricks

Thank you for explaining it. Before, avoiding explaining it, being vague, and saying things that aren't true like FM being limited to bells, sines, or always going out of tune, is what made it seem like marketing. Lots of other people in this thread said so too. You don't need to go into more detail than 'NeoFM = FM/PM + advanced FFT tricks' but a broad explanation like that is the minimum needed to call something innovative without people being rightly suspicious of it. If I were you, I'd add that to the manual and product page to attract more customers as vague marketing talk is off-putting.

Post

I get your point that a too vague technical explanation could be off-turning for sound-designers and experts. I'll add a more detailed description to the website.
However those who fund the company and buy the products are music producers. The majority of music producers don't know what FFT is. They are not as geeky as kvr members and do not want to read DSP-math-stuff and technical details. They care about sound quality, reliable products, good factory content, easy to use interfaces and low CPU use.

I think Tone 2 needs to develop an FFT synth that rivals Alchemy, Harmor, and Linplug Spectral!

Post

Not every producer will care but its clear from this thread that many people wanted to know, and I appreciate the explanation after 2 years of people asking. Most of tone2's synths generally have quite advanced features and are well suited to synth nerds. People like me also buy your products and fund the company. I'll happily admit I'm a synth nerd, but calling your customers geeks for wanting to know why you call your synth innovative is pretty hostile. I think you need a PR guy.

This is a pretty advanced feature list:
Classic FM/Phase-Modulation (known from the Yamaha DX11)
Waveshaping (known from the Korg 01/W)
Additive synthesis (known from the Kawai K1)
Phase-Distortion (known from the Casio CZ)
Formant-Synthesis (known from the Yamaha FS1R)
Crossblending Waveforms (known from the Waldorf Microwave)
PWM (unlike conventional synths Nemesis can do PWM with any Waveform, not just Squarewaves)
Ring-Modulation
Resynthesis of Waveforms
Resonance (exclusive to Nemesis)
Neo-FM (exclusive to Nemesis)

I think many producers have heard of fft, every daw uses it. At least if they know what those other features are, they know what fft is. And noone asked for any maths or technical details.

Gladiator and icarus are pretty dope fft/spectral synths

Can Nemesis do FS1R type of formant sounds??

I sampled the FS1R before selling it, around 2001. I didnt know synthesis enough to program it, and the little display with a few knobs made it near impossible to be creative with. But the sounds are still incredible, really clean.

Post

Yes. It comes with an fs1r-like formant oscillator. Select 'Formant' as a synthesis type. You can use the neoFM knob to control the formant frequency.

a geek is a person who is knowledgeable about and obsessively interested in a particular subject, especially one that is technical or of specialist or niche interest. - So how is he calling you a geek hostile?

like I said, I'll happily admit im a synth nerd, but geek/nerd is obviously used as an insult by many people. If you look at some of the other definitions of geek like 'a person often of an intellectual bent who is disliked' or 'a person who is boring, wears clothes that are not fashionable, does not know how to behave in social situations' it explains how it is used as an insult.

A dev should probably not call his customers that for asking questions about a product. You also don't have to be a geek to want to know why he calls a product innovative, or to know what FFT is. I wasn't offended, I am a synth nerd, but I think he needs a PR guy as he doesn't know how to talk to customers - dodging questions for 2 years and then using insults show this. That convo had finished and I don't think it needs to be dragged out anymore

i've installed a demo for Nemesis on my macbook, it's left 3 folders in my plugin root folder!
What kind of shenanigans is this?

Post

It is unavoidable that a software installation places files somewhere on your harddisc. This is the way how software works.
On pc you can install the product whereever you want.
If you are on Mac and if you think you can't live with plugin-data placed in Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/ don't buy the product. The location on mac will not be changed as this would break downward compatibility with previous versions and soundsets.
I will not further disuss on this topic as it has been answered for many times in the past.
Either deal with it or don't buy it.

Gladiator's HCM is a FFT based approach. Harmor was released several years later and 'borrows' the concept.

For security reasons we can not longer provide full version betas before the release. Hackers illegaly distributed the (buggy) betas in the past.
