Interesting its running in Linux so I wonder if there will be a new Linux version of Live!

I am also not bothered about standalone (although it is a pretty useful hardware sampler you could move around the studio without needing it to be plugged in- 2 x TRS inputs for sampling or running hardware synths through with Lives effects...)

The processor, RAM, SSD etc are all upgradable and you can add them to the non standalone version at any time (so theoretical you can add an i9 if you really want!)

The IO looks really useful even on the basic model

There are two pre-amp equipped jack inputs, two main outputs, and two more assignable monitor/headphone outs. ADAT in and out ports, allowing expansion up-to 10 ins and 12 outs...+ 4 CV outs...midi etc
I don't want to spoil the mood, I ordered the standalone version, but that sounds a bit too optimistic.

It looks like you can't update your own components, only those offered by Ableton. The Intel NUC used cannot operate an I9. But that's all in the FAQ.

https://ableton.com/en/push/upgrading-p ... 3049344bff

"The Intel® NUC Compute Element combines a processor, RAM memory and WiFi. It’s the first Intel® processor to be adapted for Push, with upgrade to a more powerful version possible in the future."

Can I use components that aren’t included in the Upgrade Kit?
No. Using parts that aren’t from Ableton could be hazardous, and will void your warranty. You need to have all four standalone components either installed or removed for your Push to work. Don’t turn your Push on if you only have some of the parts installed, or if the backplate hasn’t been screwed on properly.

And M4L doesn't run fully either, or some devices don't run because they rely on libraries that don't run on the operating system (Linux) used by Push3.

Today was another great day, especially for Ableton fans.
Thanks for the clarification, early YT reviews seem to have differing opinions!- OK stating i9 may have been a bit optimist (and overkill!) but its only 'launch' day and I suspect things will only only improve in terms of available parts, optimisation and any old M4L updates- Abelton are 'all in' on this...the future is bright...I will also be getting the PUSH 3 controller, but the fact that I can update to standalone if I want at a latter date is amazing.

PS- Live 11.3.2 has dropped at the Live site , pretty big update mainly focused on MPE as you would expect!
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

"All in" is the main reason I ordered it.

In my opinion, Ableton doesn't do things by halves, I'm happy about it and share your enthusiasm. Can only get better with time. Great Times

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

i don't need another audio interface. if they made regular push 3 w/o audio i/o and w/o standalone mode i think that'd appeal to a lot of people.. then make the standalone version w/the audio interface.. so you'd have inexpensive and expensive versions. shrug.

making the standalone version w/upgradeable components is a solid move though. smart.

once again, updating tot he latest version of Live has messed w/my library and now a bunch of folders i added are greyed out or missing. not a deal breaker and i can re-add them etc but what a pain.

Impressive job on the new Push 3! Kudos to Ableton.

Having MPE plus better connectivity is already enough of an improvement for me to look at it and the improvements to the controls and workflow make it compelling, although I’m not bothered yet by having it as a standalone instrument.

I'm really surprised they didn't put an Arm CPU in this thing. I mean, they already did most of the work with the M1-native version of Live. It would be way more power efficient.

It is a pretty serious CV machine now as well with the new free CV tools in 11.3, 4 X CV included and of course ADAT I/O to something like an ES-8 gives you lots of CV in and out

Does ARM stuff work on Linux?

Wonder how much would it be possible to upgrade down the road, the simple fact it can be done is mind blowing, even if should be more common with today's technology on similar HW.

It also leaves me with a good impression of the company vision, even if expensive is still not in apple territory and a totally different philosophy for the HW, glad they had resisted being bought.

This is amazing. Amazing job Ableton, as always.

I was thinking about an Arm chip too but perhaps Linux is the reason.

The ssd should be an easy upgrade. Looks like standard Nvme drive just needs operating system loaded to. Rest I guess one day Ableton might offer another upgrade so we don’t have to buy full new device which is nice.

For a mobile device it looks great and let’s not forget no overhead from operating system and other programs.
